This is the terror our communities are experiencing. #waleg and the Governor are not doing enough to protect our neighbors. The mask ban was such a waste of legislation. Stop sharing data with the Feds!
Yesterday in #Burien, #ICE agents were observed using AR-15-style weapons during the abduction of a community member.
Today, they pointed a pistol at a rapid response volunteer, who had been observing from over 20ft away.
#ICE is quickly becoming more violent

Today: Interim host @liamgbillingham.bsky.social is joined by Kelabe Tewolde and Jaelynn Scott, candidates for House Position 1 and 2 in Seattle’s 37th District, to discuss the uniqueness of the 37th, why they want to represent it, and the biggest issues facing the area.
Honestly I'd suggest voting before Nov 3 and saving yourself a lot of stress. I know it's tough to get it done before the last day, but this is probably the year to push through.
The U.S. Department of Justice informed King County Elections Director Julie Wise this week that the administration is sending election monitors for the Nov. 3 midterms. It’s unclear what role federal election monitors will play or how many there will be in King County on Election Day.
The PDC just handed more influence to rich and powerful special interests with nearly no warning.
Control of the state Supreme Court is on the line.
Initiatives attacking fundamental rights are on the ballot.
This is a travesty.
My phone was blowing up over this last night. (Progressives are pissed!) One potential outcome could be lots more last-minute money pouring into local independent expenditure campaigns, since the $7,500 limit no longer applies.
I'm Nilu Jenks, and I'm running because blue cities need to show they can govern. North Seattle has been left behind, and the people of D5 deserve as much attention, programming, and resources as the rest of the city. I’ll work hard everyday to change that, and I would be honored to earn your vote.
You may ask, how could this happen? But if you spend 5 minutes talking to @kelabe.bsky.social you will no longer wonder.
Excited to see what he can accomplish!
Really proud to be endorsed by the @theurbanist.org@thestranger.com and surprisingly the Seattle Times. Not often do all three agree but when it comes to housing, k-12 education, and centering people over corporations there’s a clear choice. Vote Tewolde.
This election season we're saying NO to three ballot initiatives in #WashingtonState that will worsen economic inequality and roll back rights for minorities already being fed and dehumanizing attacks.

Had a great conversation with @soseaemerald.bsky.social
Surprised that my opponent went with “We welcome newcomers, [but] not at the expense of our values.”
*checks notes* I was born and raised here and value helping those furthest from opportunity…

Kelabe Tewolde finished ahead of longtime incumbent Sharon Tomiko Santos in August's primary.
Ahead of Nov. 3, the candidates for the 37th District's state House Position 1 seat discuss cellphone bans, payday legislation, and youth gun offenses.

Also, payday lending is bad. Full stop. I’m not sure how opposing something that keeps people in a cycle of poverty is a “privileged” take… my mother took out payday loans and suffered with the high interest rates.
My latest! I wrote about Councilmember Rinck's new campaign to fund gender-based violence services...and put it in context with other budget/revenue news.
37th LD Candidate forum coming up on October 27, hosted by Hillman City Neighborhood Association. Candidates who have so far confirmed their participation:
- Chipalo Street
- Tatiana Brown
- Sharon Tomiko Santos
- Kelabe Tewolde
NEW: King County saw a record breaking 1000+ evictions filed in March 2026. Seattle (especially w/ a renter mayor) must do better than just maintain tenant services in the budget.

Oh gosh, somehow I missed these polls earlier this month. This initiative is virulently anti-trans and in practice it will discourage all girls from participating in sports. (Boys remain untouched by the policy, no invasive checks for them, what a shock.)
I wrote about this earlier this year.
On my long list of things to feel heartsick about: there is a genital-check initiative on the ballot in WA this cycle, intended (as they all are) to make a marginalized minority's life even more difficult, and polling shows that it is likely to pass.
This also makes the Seattle Times endorsement of @kelabe.bsky.social so much funnier, because by this logic if he were an incumbent he wouldn't have gotten it.
Same party, different priorities. Incumbent Rep. Sharon Tomiko Santos & challenger Kelabe Tewolde face off in a Washington State House race representing communities from Southeast Seattle to Renton. From education & housing to public safety, hear from the two on City Inside/Out: youtu.be/EYnUUQqBks0
ICE is still using WA driver data in their arrests & detentions, while Ferguson fails to act to plug the data flow (New York state shows it's possible).
I also wrote about a Bellevue incident showing ICE/DHS is using this data channel to identify local ICE observers.
Our Finances visualizations are mostly powered by data from our WA PDC (Public Disclosure Commission). We are lucky to live in a state with some of the best transparency requirements!
The PDC site can be hard to use, so we focused on helping you to quickly see key differences between candidates.
Washington state can no longer require foster parents to provide an affirming and supportive home for LGBTQ+ children and youth, according to a settlement the state reached with a religious couple.
Thank you @socklessinseattle.bsky.social Come celebrate my birthday at Rough & Tumble- Columbia City. You can get tickets here: secure.anedot.com/kelabetewold...
Ballots will be dropping in your mailboxes this week! We’ve completed incorporating and hand-checking the endorsements of all but a handful of our endorsing organizations, and we’ve improved our site for you.
The new finances tab is really cool and provides some transparency for folks that don’t want to get into the weeds of the PDC leftycheatsheet.org#e=20261103&r...
and the folks at @electioncheatsheet.org are constantly updating with endorsements from member orgs, unions, and media like @theurbanist.org who just dropped their general election endorsements.
VOTE NO ON I-645! My partner just got this very misleading text from the repeal folks. Tell everyone you know to VOTE NO on all of Heywood’s initiatives

One thing I have noticed about the 2023 councilmembers is they use these policy discussions to rant at central staff and the 2025 councilmembers use them to ask policy questions.
22 days until election day! Plenty of opportunities to support our campaign. Come help us bring much needed generational change to Olympia. Sign up, tell a friend, bring your kid!

Over 100 WA physicians say I-638’s new sex inspection requirements will force them to conduct medically unnecessary & potentially harmful tests on girls as a new part of sports physicals. Vote NO!

It's cool how sepa delays on the comp plan make it impossible to do any additional urban zoning changes while giving fuel for environment destructive urban growth boundary expansion.
While Seattle's growth plan remains paralyzed by legal appeals, the former Reagan Dunn staffer helping Sara Nelson run her new op-ed site is advocating for moving Washington's Urban Growth Boundary.
Three percent of SEATTLE is zoned for mid-rise housing.

It's important we don't fall for talking points from the right. Let's make sure we are not adding to suburban sprawl and harming our green spaces, waterways, and farmland. I'l continue to fight for affordable housing through density, social housing, affordable housing, and community landtrusts.
Jayapal's endorsement of Kelabe Tewolde comes just as the IEs start to spend on behalf of Sharon Tomiko Santos, with the Jackson Legacy Fund (which usually supports more centrist candidates) reporting a $82,000 spend yesterday.
I have long admired Congresswoman Jayapal because she stands up for her values in the face of big money interests and I’m so thankful for her endorsement. Thanks for believing in the next generation of leaders @jayapal.house.gov
