We are a statewide coalition of frontline communities—that means communities of color, Indigenous peoples, immigrants and refugees, and anyone else on the frontlines of climate change and environmental harm. We center equity for a #JustTransition.
This election season we're saying NO to three ballot initiatives in #WashingtonState that will worsen economic inequality and roll back rights for minorities already being fed and dehumanizing attacks.

Washingtonians! We've got inside intel that hyperscalers have been having "urgent" meetings with Governor Ferguson.
THIS IS NOT GOOD. He stood up to Trump as AG; make sure he knows we expect him to stand up for our communities now, and not roll over for Big Tech.
Statewide moratorium now!
Extreme weather disasters in WA are growing in scale + frequency causing $$ billions in damage. Meanwhile #fossilfuel industry reaps another windfall. One common sense step we can take: #MakePollutersPay for costs of climate harms!💡 washingtonstatestandard.com/2026/10/15/w...@350seattle.bsky.social
The case connects three key elements:
🏭 Historical corporate emissions
🌡️ Climate attribution science
💰 The principle that those contributing to environmental harm should bear its costs: #MakePollutersPay.
“In terms of magnitude, the [US emissions} increase...far exceeded that of all other countries and was driven by increased electricity demand."

Beverly and Jeff Morris lived in peace and quiet on their beautiful farm before Meta broke ground on a data center complex next door. Now, they don't have clean drinking water and are dealing with constant noise pollution.

California’s coastal habitats just gained protections: The Mishopshno and Point Sal State Marine Conservation Areas have been approved. This marks a new era in ocean conservation, as these are the first Tribally led marine protected areas for the state.
New study: Pollution from industries in Louisiana's Cancer Alley, include oil refining and petrochemical processing, increases risks of congenital heart defects for infants born in nearby communities. BAAJA, the federal permitting bill, would make it easier to build such polluting facilities.
"The confidential draft, obtained by POLITICO and not previously reported, marks a notable effort by the frontier AI lab to shape the rules governing its own technology."
Right. And then we'll let Exxon write climate policy.
After National Climate Assessment researchers were dismissed under Trump, scientists launched a collection where synthesis research that underpins climate assessments could continue. The first paper was published this fall.

So is housing servers more important than housing people?🤔
Staggering cost of #datacenters is crowding out other investments such as #housing. As new data center value grew by $48B since 2024, new houses + apartments dropped by $29B according to the data. washingtonstatestandard.com/2026/10/17/r...

At COP31, where zero waste is a major climate priority, representatives of the incineration industry are expected to participate in discussions about circular cities and climate finance.
We are calling on the #COP31 Presidency and climate finance institutions to keep #IncineratorsOutOfCOP31!

Corporate profits are at record highs, but corporate tax revenue fell by about $70 billion this year.
Why? Because last year's tax cuts let companies write off new investments immediately for the hundreds of billions in AI buildouts they were already planning.

After we published The Propagandist, I sent a link to a source who had been targeted by the propaganda, who last spring expressed all kinds of bad feelings about the movement to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. His reply blew my mind. A data center had changed his mind.

A recent UW study by researchers in @uwatmossci.bsky.social found that past emissions from the top oil, gas, coal and cement producers will continue impacting the environment for decades. These emissions can make future climate disasters more likely due to global warming.

BOG ALERT
It’s official: Bogland is OUT IN THE US TODAY!
I wrote a book about weird, wonderful, squelchy wetlands. There are mosses, mysteries, things preserved for thousands of years (people, butter).
And now I get to share all this bog weirdness with you.
Are you ready to get bogged down?

40% of *everything being shipped everywhere on Earth* is fossil fuels
Just an absolute laughing-stock clown-show of an energy source. This is laughably absurd, why do we treat this like it's normal and good
Fossil fuels are a satirical fuel

The Trump administration is just trolling Sen. Whitehouse & Sen. Heinrich's choice to agree to the Senate permitting deal *BEFORE* getting assurances that the administration would cease its obstruction of renewables projects, in particular offshore wind projects off the coast of Rhode Island.
It's cool how sepa delays on the comp plan make it impossible to do any additional urban zoning changes while giving fuel for environment destructive urban growth boundary expansion.
While Seattle's growth plan remains paralyzed by legal appeals, the former Reagan Dunn staffer helping Sara Nelson run her new op-ed site is advocating for moving Washington's Urban Growth Boundary.
Three percent of SEATTLE is zoned for mid-rise housing.

A moratorium on this BS till we figure out how to make it work for ALL our communities....is labor justice.
is economic justice.
is environmental justice.
is climate justice.
is...justice.

Spot on! Private utilities forcing working-class ratepayers to lock in decades of dirty gas infrastructure is pure corporate greed. We need democratically controlled public utilities that prioritize clean energy, meet climate mandates, and lower energy bills instead of lining shareholder pockets.
An excellent op-ed about how counties like Loudon could have done a better job - more proactive than reactive - in dealing with data centers. Requiring an EIS to cover cumulative impacts is sorely needed.
The County had legal authority to commission a cumulative environmental impact study [on #datacenters]... not just individual site plans, but cumulative burden on air, water, land & infrastructure. The county chose not to. @blackvirginianews.bsky.socialblackvirginianews.substack.com/p/oped-loudo...
After I reached out to the @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social the author added one sentence stating that WA doesn't force gas-->heat pump conversion. But the article still includes several sentences that strongly imply it does.
I-2066 would have hamstrung the state's ability to build clean new homes and help people who actually want heat pumps (raises hand), as I covered for @sightline.org at the time.
www.sightline.org/2024/09/24/e...
I-2066 was an anti-climate, pro-gas measure, part of the slate of 2024 "Let's Go WA" ballot measures. It eked out 51.7% of the vote, despite the @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social claiming it had "broad support."
The article strongly implies that WA will make homeowners swap out their furnaces now that the state supreme court overturned I-2066 ("If forced to convert to electricity, a heat pump swap is expensive...")
That's never been true + is parroting BIAW and Let's Go WA's disinfo. campaign
No one's forcing Washingtonians to spend $$ to buy a heat pump (as much as I'd love my landlord to replace my gas furnace...). You wouldn't know that by reading @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social Sunday article about Initiative 2066.
Correcting the record ⬇️.
Today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for the Department of Air Force vs Prutehi Guahan in a case that could have broader implications for how the U.S. military is regulated by local and state environmental authorities, especially for U.S. territories such as Guam.
“Some of you standing here today have been called extremists and communists for standing with us,” said Ben Mattice of the Walla Walla Anti-Data Center League. “You are not extremists for wanting transparency. You are not extremists for wanting clean drinking water.” @wa-air.bsky.social
More than four hundred Washingtonians across 19 locations took to the streets Sunday to demand a statewide moratorium on data centers. washingtonstatestandard.com/2026/10/06/a...
