Writers Guild speaks out about tech platforms squashing the @alexgibneyfilm doc about Elon Musk:
“A small handful of billionaires now own virtually every major media company, news outlet, social media platform and are demonstrating how this unchecked concentration threatens democratic discourse.”
Ronan Farrow reported in a 2023 New Yorker piece that the Pentagon signed a contract to keep Musk from cutting off Ukraine’s battlefield connectivity at will. Colin Kahl described it as a way to lock in service so Musk couldn’t just flip the switch, considering Musk's known antipathy towards Ukraine
The waye to figure out yf you are talkinge wyth a cat on the ynternet ys to aske the person you are talkinge to "have you been fedde" and yf thei saye "no my bowle ys alwayes emptye" BINGO you are talkinge wyth a catte on the internet. The Purring Test.
I never would've expected Americans to get so accustomed to fascist madness. Every day there are 5 new outrages that make me think I must be having a nightmare. Yet some people around me act as if it's just normal life.
Frankly, a little more healthy panic would reassure me.
Some corporate Democrats and pundits think the party has gone too far "left" and needs to readjust towards the “center.”
Rubbish.
Where’s the center between democracy and oligarchy, and why would Democrats want to be there?
Sometimes I marvel at the degree to which tech bros fundamentally don’t understand teaching & learning.
It’s grounded on give & take.
Teacher & student learning from each other as they go—progressing towards knowledge.
You can’t teach from a script.
Well…you can.
But that’s not really teaching.
This is about Ilhan Omar. But it's also about control, intimidation, & authoritarianism. The message is: we can do this to a member of Congress; no foreign-born American is safe. The administration is using fear as a tactic to discourage people from voicing opposition.
Chris Murphy: "Donald Trump was so fundamentally unprepared for this war that within days of the war starting, our billion dollar air bases and naval bases in the region were obliterated by the Iranians. Every single American should be furious about that."
This is kind of wonderful, Alison Brown wrangled a handful of pretty decent old bluegrass guys to play “Old Town Road”. Nas X’s impact… immeasurable youtu.be/a_GCX5IoCds
Well, it’s a quick take, and no doubt data will come in, but it sure looks like based on today’s evidence that a lot of pro-Trump and pro-AfD bot work depends directly on Russian data centers.
Immediately after Ukraine took out two of the five data centers run by the Russian tech giant Yandex, pro-Trump and pro-MAGA posts on American social media sites plummeted. The same happened to posts boosting Germany's far-right AfD.
Russia is engaged in MASSIVE election interference.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260:
Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.
"I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I’m not a member of their club. I didn’t sign the waiver to let him use AI on ‘Spider Noir.’ I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”

We are sanctioning the ICC because we are a country that commits war crimes.
We are buying diesel from Russia to fund Putin’s war machine because we are a country that likes *other* countries that commit war crimes.
22 California billionaires have spent a combined $150 million so far to defeat Prop 40.
By spending their fortunes trying to stop California from taxing billionaires, they're making the argument for a billionaire wealth tax more clearly and articulately than anyone else possibly could.
