Re: Importance of Real Writing (versus Prompt Writing) -- I am utterly baffled by the idea that anyone could possibly know exactly what they want to say in a piece of writing before actually writing it. Intense formal effort is essential to finding the voice and argument in everything I write.

KPFA mourns the passing of Dolores Huerta, a trailblazing labor organizer and civil rights activist who dedicated her life to fighting for justice and empowering communities. Her legacy lives on in the movements she helped build and the generations she inspired. Rest in power. ¡Sí, se puede!

This is vital. Writing helps us think. So many students are saying they turn to LLMs because they don’t know what to say, and need to hear that not knowing is normal as one starts to write.

Do you need to know what you think before you start writing? Not necessarily, argues historian Lynn Hunt. In a 2010 #AHAPerspectives essay, Hunt explores how the act of writing itself generates new ideas and why getting words on the page is essential to the thinking process.

Re: Ant 1) They prooooobably should have taken care of this in the off-season, but I understand not wanting unnecessary surgery. 2) Ant hasn't had his normal explosiveness all season. I was at the Raptors game and there were two breakaway layups twould have been rimbreakers in the past

3) If Ant was out all season I still think the Wolves would be a playoff team; I don't think it's crazy to think the Wolves can still make a 3-4 seed. If they are about .500 and he returns in January they will be in good shape. 4) Learn to love this front court, there won't be any trades now.

5) To that, most of the national writers are going to look at two 40 point plus games from Ant and assume the Wolves will just be cooked without him. Ignore that: LaMelo Ball ball has been making the offense hum more than Ant has 6) Wrap LaMelo in cellophane whenever he's not playing.

just spoke with an ADHD therapist to try and get a diagnosis. Website said sliding scale down to $70 a session. On the phone it became $250 an hour and when I said that's far out of my price range the doctor stopped helping and said "oh that's a mistake on the website"

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I'm looking to every single national NBA person using the Wolves' OT loss to a team that made the conference finals last year on the second night of a back to back as an excuse to call their start fraudulent

Honestly my biggest concern through 3.5 games is the Ant seems to be off. He's still good as hell, but it seems like that his right knee isn't 100% right now. Is that a nit I'm picking? Yes. But it is real.

Ant is trying to take on these doubles way too much. Other guys need to get open & he needs to find them faster.

I need to sit down and figure out how the Timberwolves are rebounding. I THINK the plan is to have four guys crash the glass and then have Ant or LaMelo for to set the offense/leak out for the transition, but not entirely sure

Either I'm getting the math wrong, or it's weird to me that no one is talking about the historical impact of tonight's win. The wolves moved out of the all time NBA win/lost cellar. The wolves now have a ~.421479 winning percentage vs the Nets ~.421418 winning percentage. We're now #29!

Genuinely I don't know that it comes across to people who haven't been here to watch how almost unbelievable this was, just people taking something that looked impossible and dragging it kicking and screaming all the way to inevitability.

I’m a little worried that if the Wolves go 82-0 and then 16-0 in the playoffs, and win every game by 20+ points, we’ll never figure out if they’re strong enough to deal with adversity.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC - @electdemocrats.bsky.social) is running anti-trans ads now, so I don't know how you can say the party itself isn't embracing transphobia. There are still some good Dems out there, but transphobia is apparently a party value.

Movies like Digger and You Can See Everything are ultimately about how movies are evil because the exorbitantly high cost of production and the ability to manipulate the truth via the indexicality of the photographic image creates perverse incentives unlike the morally superior art form of comics.

If nothing else "The Miz" is the best sports nickname we've had in a minute

Micah@rincewind.run

"who the fuck are the rays and the brewers" you say well, let's start with a brewer you should all know this is Jacob "The Miz" Misiorowski - he looks pretty normal, right? well... pitches thrown over 100mph this season: The Miz: 1115 every other team: less than 750, as a team

Bela Legosi was involved in creating the world's first actor's union and involved Hungarian Soviet Republic before coming to the US and also helping found SAG. He also played Dracula.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.
