One time I was at a wine tasting listening to the server describe this newest wine, and I cut in to ask “I’m sorry, I’ve heard of stone fruits before, but what are boulder fruits?” Her: “uh, well, they’re fruits that uh, have a richer, stronger taste than others…” Me: 🫥 oh Me: “BOLDER FRUITS”
FRIEND: we love an appellation wine ME: it's from Appalachia? FRIEND: no, it's from France ME: you said it was from Appalachia FRIEND: it's French appellation ME: *nodding* French-Appalachian FRIEND: no,
We have thousands of years of folklore telling you, in every cultural tradition, not to eat the goblin fruit. Goddamn it, people. How many more ways are we going to have to say it? STUDY SHOWS: GOBLIN FRUIT STILL BAD.
by all means, AI evangelists: leave me behind, off with you, godspeed, don’t let the door hit you news.berkeley.edu/2026/10/09/u...
My god, KC Green (“this is fine 🔥”) has done it again. A reaction shot I’m going to use 1000 times a day in group chats, work PRs, etc. He can’t keep getting away with this. (From his comic kcgreendotcom.com/PIGBUCKET/, hat tip to @ironspike.bsky.social for the rec!)
I found a single (!) ceramic doll arm in the dirt I was excavating to fill this planter, and as someone who has read @tkingfisher.com’s A House With Good Bones, I knew what I had to do.

The helper robots were a webcomic of mine in years long past. I’d like to put them back online some day, but for now they live on in small drawings and marginalia. For REAL artwork, follow *this* lovely person — and wish her a happy birthday!
Got a birthday card from @keystricken.bsky.social and it included a doodle of my wrinkly faced boy in the corner (with a cute little helper robot assisting him with his jowls). I love it so much
If I drink more than two (2) lattes I can see time and taste sound, so I loved the Workshop Cafe in San Francisco (RIP) which charged a $2/hour fee for its tables. I could stay long after my caffeine quota was met. I’d love to see this replicated elsewhere.
There really does need to be a sort of, "pay the table rent of a coffee and pastry so you can sit around and read a book, hang out with friends, scribble in a notepad, etc." place.
@lackingceremony.bsky.social Avery, your “guy economy” thread in the good days of Twitter still echoes in my brain. Any chance you have it kicking around still?
my father-in-law is a “I know a guy” Guy. sadly all the old Guys are aging out of the Guy Economy. Guys are fundamentally incompatible with Hustle Culture because it’s not about “winning” a deal, it’s about collecting favors and goodwill in a mutually-beneficial cycle. protect your local Guy Economy
I read the whole thing in one furious binge and now I want a dozen books in this world. Sharang’s writing is vividly immersive and narratively hilarious. Get it for yourself!
Here's the book! It's about gay archeologists, drama between superheroes, chainmail robots, India as a world colonizer, open relationships, how we tell histories... And it has 100+ footnotes. Some are sexy Special thanks, as always, to @neonhemlock.bsky.social www.neonhemlock.com/books/iron-b...

Portland, *always* look at the text of the initiative before you sign! They will flip to the right page when you ask. I promise it takes less than 10 seconds to see if the canvasser is full of shit.
Portland people: don't sign the "Safer Portland" initiative. Canvassers are lying to voters: this measure raids the clean energy fund to hire more cops.
So, we have companies willing to steal all the world’s work from artists, writers, everyone, and sell it back to us; they induce psychosis in vulnerable people with barely a shrug; they call it “hallucination” when predictive text prints things that are not true, and blame you for uncareful prompts.
This is true, though in this scenario, we stop that number from growing. We have to prevent them from doing what torturers have done for decades: take their festering sickness with them to police, prison, and “private security” jobs where their victims are even less visible.
Even under a best case scenario — Dems take the WH in 2028, ICE and BP are abolished or rebuilt from scratch — we’re still going to have thousands of angry, unemployed, well-armed, MAGA loyalist former immigration cops who have been told for 3-4 years that they’re above the law.
Everything we do to “terrorists” comes home eventually. We’ve waterboarded prison inmates in New York. And those famous police tortures in Chicago? Commanded by a guy who learned the tactics in Vietnam and taught them to others. www.chicagotorturejustice.org/history
Funny how Multnomah’s DA Nathan Vasquez can’t possibly prosecute ICE for tear gassing children, saying police haven’t brought him a case, but he CAN demand police create all new cases and investigations… when he’d like to throw drug users in jail, of course. www.wweek.com/news/2025/11...

It was “baby’s first tear gas” for so many of us, including some literal babies. This crowd looked exactly like the No Kings march, so as you can expect, we saw the gas approaching and thought it was just smoke from the flash bangs until it started burning.
Today I saw ICE gas little white kids in the streets of Portland with chemical weapons. Imagine what they're doing to brown and black kids in the detention camps
