From a narrative perspective, I think the stories told in either tend to want to shift their world to the other. That is, a Fantasy hero in a world defined by hoarding power, is virtuous because they have intangible morals that transcend accumulation while

Coin = tangible physical token of presumed inherent value that exists in a zero-sum sort of relationship. More coins = more power. Kings and Dragons and Warlords hoard coins to subjugate others, pursuit of coin motivates loyalty, theft, morality etc

Credits = intangible, unintuitive concept of currency defined by society that created and maintains it. Power brokers express through control and manipulation of the systems of wealth and politics than by direct hoarding
