caught my mom watching Ma this weekend. she was like, "this movie is called Ma!" and then, after a beat, while we're both looking at a teenager chained up in Ma's basement on the TV screen, she said to me (conspiratorially), "I could tell she was lonely" lmao

I think this means I'm finally allowed to tell you I had the honor of contributing an essay to the booklet for Umbrella's new restoration of Roadgames (!)

me wondering who will wish me a happy birthday today

(as always, sorry for being insufferable - birthdays are a bummer to me so I have to demand attention to counteract the ennui)

saw a post on threads puzzled over the reaction to Oliver Reed in The Devils because "he's not that hot" and asserting objectively that he's "just ok," and I think I need to whisper my thoughts about this into the secret hole from In the Mood for Love

tragically, hot people aren't always paragons of virtue. getting scolded by a complete stranger, however, is never hot.

too many guys are bad-weird now, we need more with this kind of good-weird energy

reposting in honor of the great Jan de Bont's birthday 🎉 🚌 💥

oh wow, yeah - that's correct. put it in your PalmPilots - it's the one day each year everyone's legally required to be nice to me.

👀

whoa. screenshots from the 2016 restoration of Roadgames versus Umbrella's new 4k restoration. if you didn't watch the video: they finally found the lost original camera negatives in Los Angeles. (they had to use a release print in 2016 so it didn't look quite as good as they wanted)

not usually a big book-signing guy, but I braved the line to meet the legend Lisa Kleypas at The Ripped Bodice bookstore tonight. (here's me saying something incredibly smart, funny, and charming to her, and not at all stupid or weird, probably.)

I suspect I do not have have the kind of following that would be excited by this lol but Lisa Kleypas is one of the greatest romance writers of all time. she stopped writing for about 5 years, just published a new novel (historical, not romance), and never does signings, so this was a huge deal
