"As the only political form that is always to be invented, to be shaped before it exists, precisely because it depends on no beginning or command, anarchism is never what it is. That’s where its being lies. This plasticity is the meaning of its being, the meaning of its question.” (Malabou, 2023).

Can I please ask those that want to reform the academy to please use the slogan "just one Pepsi!" I think it is a succinct rebuttal to the Browne Review. (And would at least give me a wee laugh.)

This is basically what I hear whenever I hear anyone wanting to go back to some mythical time where UK HE was good. "Just get me a Pepsi, please? All I want's a Pepsi"

I do understand that some people got all misty eyed about institutions over the course of the last decade. But institutions are a symptom of a deeper problem. (I can't remember if this is Foucault or a Suicidal Tendencies reference.)

HEADS-UP, IRELAND. Another ICE flight headed your way. Based on info from human source, I expect this ICE flight — and/or another one tomorrow — to be unlawfully refouling Ukrainians through Poland.

100% all of this: "We need ways of being and acting in the world that do not rely on the benevolence of a ruler who leaves office in four years, or on institutions so powerful and centralized that we cannot exert leverage upon them."

We are relieved to see that another Bolsonaro will not take power in Brazil. But only grassroots action can address the deeper issues at play. “If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us—if Lula wins, they let us die.” crimethinc.com/2026/09/29/i...

I just don't trust it, particularly the recordings and them saving in the MS cloud environment. Thankfully, it hasn't failed (yet,) but I get so anxious. Of course, I feel very compromised by using it at all, but the commercialisation of the academy isn't something a one-person army can fight, eh.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

Yesterday, a mooring in Monterey Bay measured an oceanic temperature anomaly of 4.57°C (8.2°F) at 60 meters (nearly 200 feet!) This is the warmest subsurface temperature anomaly measured at the station since the very strong El Niño of 1997.

It still amuses me that Bleed American got 9/11'd to a s/t lp. (If someone wants to buy an original press from the first run of Bleed American, I can fish it out of storage.)

To conclude today's antiromance, "I like her mind, she hates the scene" is good guidance for the young punx (of the 90s.) It is *excellent* guidance for anyone near open access scholarly publishing.

Too much time on land. It is not good for the brain. It has been nice to reconnect with the south west, though. Perhaps I should bring my boat down in the K&A... smell yis later, Bath 🖤

I may pop to have a swift one at The Grapes before departing the south west. I am apprehensive about returning to the boat in case the wind has damaged things or sank it, but I have research interviews this week, so the earlier I get back, the better. (Even if I have to get a train to my parents'.)
