Some kind of testing of the fire alarm here. In the living room. For twenty minutes. With a strobe light. I have some good noise-canceling earbuds, which is good because otherwise some people were going to be unalived.

When I was a little white boy, one time in Little League we lost a game 35-1. There was a 6 run per inning limit, so we held them to five once. No cops were called. We all went to Dairy Queen afterwards. I think that's a bit more of how it's supposed to go.

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

Every one of you who believes aliens are visiting Earth are stupendously stupid and are outing yourselves as someone who is stupendously stupid.

Aside from the embrace of Wellness Eugenics I think RFK jr's moves all make sense if you are trying to destroy actual medical industries and replace them with wellness snake oil. We can all agree on the greed of the former but at least they create actual usable products

This is the 82-year-old state senator the FBI just raided because she successfully redistricted Virginia to match racist Republican redistricting efforts. They targeted her because she's ruthless and effective. They don't want anyone else to play within their new rules.

I have fond memories of watching WTCG-TV Super-Station on cable. Many of us in some more rural areas had cable television in the 70s and 80s. I remember the whole sequence from WTCG to CNN. What I liked was to watch the Braves late at night. I'm not even a big baseball fan.

This is looking to be, if built, the most hated public building in the USA. It will be a symbol and a rallying cry. I don't think the Trump regime will stand. But Trump and many others are so incriminated, and losing popularity so quickly, that they will metaphorically as well as literally dig-in.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

One day after news broke that Republicans want to spend at least $1 billion taxpayer dollars for a ballroom Trump said would be privately funded and cost one-fifth that amount, Trump claims it will cost "something less than 400 Million Dollars." The math ain't mathing.

None of the Iran War's stated strategic objectives have been achieved. Highly repressive regime still in Tehran, nuclear program still intact, missiles & drones still launching. And US now suddenly pausing effort to re-open Hormuz-- a problem that did not exist before the war. It's mind-boggling.

Are you fucking kidding me? I hate these bastards down to my very DNA.

Rubio: "You've got friends who have been shot in the head because they're out protesting, and it's heartbreaking to him to see these people are abused in this way and have no measures to take against their own government as a result of it. This is a vicious regime."

issuing correction on a previous post of mine, regarding robespierre and the committee of public safety. actually you do, under these circumstances, "gotta hand it to them". well done.

There was a time when the ultra-wealthy in this country at least pretended to acknowledge their privilege and their luck. It helped fuel a sense of civil obligation. These days, however: www.nytimes.com/2026/05/05/n...

I'm not expecting Obama to save us. It's just incredibly jarring to see him try to maintain pop culture relevance rather than spending his post-presidency on building houses for the poor, profiting off of lobbying connections, and/or quickly dying.

Imagine a stack of fifty $100 bills. Then imagine a pile of those small stacks that would amount to a million dollars. It will take 2,000 stacks. Can you visualize that big pile in front of you? Now imagine one million of those piles. We're only at $1 billion.

In the now all-too-common category of things that are completely unsurprising and yet utterly shocking, Republicans have completely memory-holed the killings of the Hortmans and shootings of the Hoffmans in Minnesota. As far as they’re concerned it just never happened.

Rep. John Rose: "The Democrats talk about how there's over the top rhetoric from both sides, but all of the bullets are going from the left to the right, and I think James Comey bears some responsibility for that."

One thing I love about BlueSky is PhDs get to complain that they're not considered working class and that socialism is all about teaching working people to read novels and go to the symphony so they'll become more fully human. I feel pretty sure the revolution will definitely happen soon-ish.

If I understand this correctly, the POTUS completed a phone call with the leader of Russia, then announced that we don't need troops in Germany, all of which was news to Germany? Did I get that right? Because I've got 1950 on the phone here with me and it's very, very confused and worried.

Rachel Maddow@maddow.bsky.social

"Trump’s initial post about removing US troops from Germany came just hours after he spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long sought to reduce the number of NATO troops in Europe... "The Pentagon 'was not expecting it'... www.politico.com/news/2026/04...

I wonder if either of have worked in a factory. I have. In any factory or mine are always gonna be some people who are familiar with and enjoy art that you think is worthwhile. But maybe you're not seeing those people because you aren't even looking.

Today: '“Isn’t she despicable?” Trump asked. “Their whole life is based on fraud and a scam,” the president said of Somali Americans. “The whole thing is a scam and we ought to get those people the hell out of our country,” he said, to wild applause.' Wow. It just gets more and more blatant.

We should start early on figuring out just what we could propose to build in place of the ballroom that would most upset Trump.

/4 To prove incitement outside of First Amendment protection you must show that the speech was intended and likely to cause imminent unlawful action. Obviously pretty hard with seashells, unless it’s, like, a friggin mermaid or something?

So, what I find fascinating is how right when you think they might finally realize they are in trouble, they double-down on the very most unpopular things. Why do they think *now* is the time to press their advantage when it's never been more obvious they don't have the advantage?

Melania Trump senior adviser Marc Beckman: "It's done. It's over. Jimmy Kimmel should be terminated from ABC."

I'm not asking this idly. It's telling us something that as they get more desperate, they get more ambitious rather than less. That seems strange to me and it feels significant. I have ideas, of course, but it's all still kind of just odd to me. It's maybe a hallmark of Trumpism?

The Republican Party would do well to consider the ‘let them eat cake’ story, who the villain is, and that we've telling that story for two hundred years before they continue to do their ‘the people demand a ballroom’ routine as gas hits $5 a gallon.

i just need republicans to explain to me how a ballroom is a better use of taxpayer money than a 30 ft tall mechanical spider that shoots nanowire webs and that donald trump can ride around on

I'm trying to find a pithy way of saying that: It's a huge red flag when someone believes that people outside of the home hearing about what's happening inside the home is worse than what's happening inside the home. That formulation isn't bad, but I feel like there's a better version.

The US is a heavily-armed society going through an almost-unprecedented crisis of legitimacy. It doesn't need conspiracies for there to be a bunch of assassination attempts on a historically-unpopular president.
