@kodi I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Uh-oh Slamming Biddy Blas into a canyon wall, I think?

Ok, so this is the thing. Racists - especially rich white racists - have been a fundamental part of the progressive coalition in the US for my entire life, and I assume well before that. Democrats have EXTENSIVE experience courting racist money and racist votes *without* supporting racist policies..

Because racists who are single-issue voters on racism will never back the coalition; all that support is coming from racists who find things other than racism important. The playbook is already there; it's the only play that makes sense. If you can't win on that playbook you're not going to win...

by joining conservatives in going after minorites, because anyone who hates a particular minority enough to base their vote entirely on that ALREADY HAS a candidate available with a proven record of being opposed to civil rights. You can't win votes by being better at racism or transphobia or w/e.

goooood morning it is cold and wet and dark but that didn’t stop us, tho only the most determined of crows were out to share our snacks - and even tho it’s not my favorite weather by far: Lucy Loved That Walk

If a dude says that Trump is a better person than Barack Obama because Trump is not an elitist, and he manages to get you to put that on my timeline, you've been played, no matter how good your dig on The Factory is.

I get this ache... And I, I thought it was for sex, but it's to tear everything to fucking pieces.

Name a Quote from a Horror Film.

I once again find myself wondering how "slavery is an acceptable punishment for a crime" would poll, just generally speaking.

I hate the way, after 6-12 months, the memory of the best meal I had at a particular restaurant manages to overtake the memory that all the recent meals I've had at that restaurant have been disappointing.

The Chronicles of Narnia is a less-offensive child's fantasy than Harry Potter. And it's literally Christian indoctrination.

Bangers that I read as a kid that I wish people would read now: 1) CS Lewis The Chronicles of Narnia series 2) Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time series 3) Everything Tolkien ever wrote (including the Simarillion) 4) Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth 5) Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials

"average person knows 3 guitar chords" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person knows 0 guitar chords. Guitar Georg, who doesn't want to make it cry or sing and knows all the chords, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Make a war film rubbish. Star Police Actions.

I'll be honest - when I read Citizens United and thought "this is a strong contender for the most damaging SCOTUS opinion ever," I did not actually realize that it was effectively legalizing outright bribery.

Sure would be amazing if I could somehow communicate to the me of two hours ago that just because I prepared an entire baked potato doesn't mean I need to EAT the entire baked potato.

It's that look of "I know that you know that this is not right" that gets me.

Do y'all have an obvious favorite photo of your dog? Because I sure do, and it will forever be this one of him photobombing Devil's Tower lol.

What is the movie that came out before you were born that you’ve watched the most times? If we're just counting "watched straight through in its entirety" then it would be METROPOLIS or IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT, but if we're counting "watched 1/8 of it eight times" as one watch, then it's FANTASIA...

What is the movie that came out before you were born that you’ve watched the most times?

For some reason, we watched the Pastoral Symphony and Dance of the Hours segments in elementary school music class multiple times a year. I had probably spent three hours watching portions of FANTASIA before I even realized that it was a movie.

O no, I'm old enough to be Stacy's Mom's Mom.

Learning I am the same age as the lady who played Stacy's Mom in the video for Stacy's Mom has REALLY done a number on my self-reference

Noises Off. There are some lines that I heard for the first time when I watched the movie recently and was finally able to rewind after I stopped laughing. I laugh so hard every single time I watch it.

name the film that made you laugh the hardest.

The Tholian Web, ST:TOS s3e9 Why is dying in deep space so much more terrifying than dying in space near a planet? I don't know! There was a Twilight Zone episode I saw around the same time that also scared the crap out of me, but I don't remember any details, just the experience of being scared.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

It's weird how they made ten furious fast movies but only ever came up with one cool design for a car. (The LEGO set has some issues! The stickers aren't very well color matched to the bricks, and the whole cabin should be one or two pegs further back relative to the tires. Still cool, though.)

Have you ever heard of a point? It's a mathematical concept, a deceptively simple "zero-dimensional location" that will melt your brain. What is the area of a point? It's zero! And yet with an infinite number of points, you can make a shape that has an area!

instead of 'young people need to work' it should be 'society needs to have capacity for workers'. increasingly, work about servicing automation and convenience, and this is never going to be good for youth employment. We cant have all our 16 year olds on scooters delivering mcdonalds ffs

Alternately, if you can even describe a room as having a smartest person, that room is probably way too narrowly focused to accomplish anything major instead of containing an appropriate diversity of specialties and viewpoints.
