Unexpected cat person, EDS/MECFS husband, musician, foodie, fantasy fan, writer I guess. Not necessarily in that order. "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." -C.S. Lewis

People these editions are so fantastic. The hardest part is deciding whether to shelve them with or without dust jackets. Incredible stamped leather? Beautiful alternate cover art? A conundrum of the highest order.

The Late Backer Store is open for the AN END TO SORROW Insanity Edition! If you missed the earlier campaigns, all three insanely sexy faux-leather hardcover books, as well as the custom slipcases, bookmarks, and challenge coins, are available! an-end-to-sorrow-insanity-edition.pledgebox.com/preorder

In House of Dragons and Game of Thrones, how do the dragon riders control their dragons? They've got handlebars and reins and none of it makes sense in the air. These aren't sapient dragons; they're just smart animals.

This person's perspective is an insult to real creatives with disabilities. And the 'tools' part misses the point. You have to actually write the book to be a writer. If you're just an idea person, that's neat, but don't claim to be a writer if you don't actually write. 1/x

Art is about process, not outcome. A writer is a mountain climber with words. Climbing a mountain requires you to go up one step or handhold at a time. If you use a helicopter to take you to the top, the outcome is the same but you didn't climb the mountain. You skipped the climbing part. 2/2

I like books. I like lists. I like lists of books. I curate booklists on @bookshop.org so that you can find your next great read and support your local independent bookstore (or support me if you’re feeling nasty). #BookSky

bookshop.orgBert the Bookseller BookshopI am the manager of an independent bookstore, a writer, and an all-around dork. I curate lists for new releases, my favorite genres, and other miscellaneous themes.

Why is it so common for actual medical offices to call me then say they can't tell me why they called me until I verify personal information? They have to realize that reads like a scam call.

Two months ago a mass shooting left four dead and fifteen wounded here in Austin as a direct result of the war in Iran. Most of you never even heard about it. Last night a man rushed security a floor away from a room full of journalists hobnobbing with fascists. ENDLESS coverage. Fuck ALL of this.

Wtf timeline is this.

Kash Patel advisor Erica Knight says a “lawsuit is being filed” over The Atlantic’s article alleging that the FBI director’s drinking has been “a recurring source of concern across the government.” Patel retweeted the post.

Congrats on “opening” a strait that was open six weeks ago, and all it cost was at least 13 dead service members, thousands of dead Iranian civilians, tens of billions in taxpayer dollars, our loss in global standing, and the Iranian regime’s increase in power. Phenomenal work.

I might be more excited about this one than my wife is (she's the artist and animation geek). Magic discover story with Ann Perkins as the mom? Hell yes

Let's be absolutely clear. Whether Donald Trump is currently suffering from cognitive decline, a loss of mental capacity, dementia or any other mental or physical disorder, he was NEVER, at any point, fit to be president of the United States.

Happy Easter! Does anyone still say Zombie Jesus Day? That always made me laugh. And made me want to write a book about a resurrected Messiah figure who turned out to just be the first zombie.

Why is anyone okay with the way this guy talks? Someone explain it to me. It feels so weird for the progressive block to be doing the tone policing. Decorum is usually a tool of the status quo. Except now "sane, kind society trying to get better at those two things" is the SQ we want to preserve.

Is there an alt text competition somewhere?

If this is you, I want you to know that the amount per work is very likely to be > $3000. Half that if you're splitting with your publisher.

Huge numbers of people are not filling out the claim form because this is the assumption they're making, that a class action settlement means a $15 gift card. THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE. bsky.app/profile/edut...

It's Friday. For most, impending weekend. For me, a regular day. Nevertheless, I am resolved to make substantial progress on dragon behavior research. Might also look into homemade kombucha. What weekend projects are you working on, writing or otherwise?

Another week about to start. Who is judging writing goals with plenty of other obligations? What are you hoping to achieve? I'll give you that always-incredibly-valuable general statement of internet stranger support!

On today's episode of "I didn't get enough sleep to do my job, handle family medical appointments, and write fiction..." I miss the days when I didn't understand my father's complaints about not having enough hours in the day.

Just to be clear, I will never send you an email telling you I'm a fellow author and want to connect because...*checks notes*... I'm not an author. Still haven't written this damn book.

Elizabeth Bear@matociquala.bsky.social

Just to be clear I will also never send you an email telling you I'm a fellow author and want to connect and hear about your process. I will totally send you a link to that science article or cocktail recipe or clothing shop we talked about in the bar however.

I'm supposed to be talking about writing and fantasy. I left Twitter to get away from political vitriol. But life is political, so I keep diving back in. Today I'm stuck on party affiliation dictating opinion. "I'm Republican, so I believe in..." No. You're a voter. You're not a member of the 1/x

GOP. You're a citizen. Republicans and Democrats are political groups who are supposed to need to persuade you to vote for them. If you identify as Dem/Rep, you're doing it backwards. Stop giving up your autonomy. They should have to convince you that they will do what you believe is right. 2/x

But you're instead letting them tell you what you believe. It's insane. How did we get here? Why are people so happy to let a cabal of old rich people (on either side) tell them what to believe? Why does everyone claim to be a free thinker while refusing to think for themselves? I'm... Sad. 3/3

This guy definitely has cover art strategy down. No way I could walk/scroll past these and not take a look.

The final book's cover art print arrived! Doesn't the set look great together? All of these Ranger of the Titan Wilds prints will be available in the upcoming campaign for The Titan Revenant! #fantasyart #epicfantasyart #wallart #fantasybooks

Cool series. Worth checking out if you like giant sky serpents and aerial combat.
