We need smaller and nimbler rockets. What's more the idea of a manned mission to Mars is completely misguided and totally unnecessary. AI-guided robots can do all the exploring we need for at least several more decades.

Robots could also begin the process of preparing habitats for eventual human visitors, but this should be a lower priority after the search for life and scientific research about Mars' composition and evolution.
