Looking forward to at least five years of cis liberals citing curated clips from this to argue that she’s not hateful, she just wants to protect vulnerable women, and therefore continuing to make HP part of their whole personality is fine, actually.

I usually feel a sense of pride in my willingness to give people the benefit of the doubt, by holy crap some people really do not deserve it. This is a post about pronoun use, among other things.

Hung out with a bunch of Zoomers who were watching 15-year-old YouTube poops and it warms my heart/horrifies me to know that Millennial brainrot culture is still appreciated. Jokes aside, a big reason this stuff gets traction is that everyone can be completely sure that it’s not AI.

Just a few months ago, Tucker said: "The defining fact of our lives is that whites around the world are being eliminated." He hasn't changed. He continues to call attention to "the wrong issues" as he promotes racist conspiracies. It is disgusting that NPR is doing this. bsky.app/profile/brit...

Brittany Page@brittanyepage.bsky.social

Nothing about this from just a few months ago, when sitting across from a fellow white supremacist, Tucker read Elon Musk's tweets and marveled at how the conspiracy theories he's worked for his whole life to mainstream are now tweeted out by the richest man in the world. Nothing on this, NPR??????

NPR doing a mostly friendly interview with Tucker Carlson where they let him publicly launder his reputation as a white supremacist bigot is almost unforgivable to me. This man was too racist for Fox News, for fuck’s sake.

I’m hanging on right now, but only because the expectations I’ve set for what consists of a satisfying life I can feel proud of have been massively downgraded. Right now I give myself credit for just getting past each workweek.

People like this sort adult humans into three categories: the rich, people who work to make the rich richer, and wastes of oxygen.

this is a common question and the answer is that a lot of companies actually do track piracy numbers when it comes to gauging interest in an IP so if you really want to send the message that Harry Potter is toxic: no, you should not pirate it either

Pantuso@pantuso.com

What about piracy?

Is there anything more quintessentially American than the fear that somewhere, in some small way, a persecuted minority might have less shitty private health insurance than you?

This kind of content is just everywhere on tiktok. Just round the clock fomenting of resentment and bigotry towards trans women.

This is a sadistic level of contempt for Democratic voters and what they clearly want. I swear they get off to this. A ratio like this should inspire a deep crisis of confidence, but it will instead be interpreted as evidence Schiff is willing to make “hard choices”

"Earthers get to walk outside into the light, breathe pure air, look up at a blue sky, and see something that gives them hope. And what do they do? They look past that light, past that blue sky. They see the stars, and they think, 'Mine.'" -Anderson Dawes (The Expanse)

New from Kathleen Stock: I am too dumb for climate change

Is this why Bluesky is dying? In a couple of years there will only be one generation left here.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

People like this often sound uber-woke when they’re talking about nonbinary transmasculine people but when they talk about binary trans women they might as well be quoting The Transsexual Empire. It’s literally the same arguments about trans women enforcing gender TERFs were making 45 years ago.

I'm not trying to be "revolutionary" or "subversive" by being trans. I had gender dysphoria, and this is what fixed it. I wanted to be a girl as long as I remember. I'm way happier now that I can be. I'm not trying to make a political statement about gender by existing.

Cowards, they should have left it up.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

5. The statement drew swift condemnation from Democrats. The Ohio Democrats Progressive Caucus issued a blistering rebuke: "Our hearts break for those kids. Those who disagree with that will never vote—let alone doorknock—for Amy Acton." Then they swiftly took down the post.

My alma mater is already cutting staff to the bone and reducing student services to make up for a budget shortfall caused by a sudden drop in international enrollment. This will gut both public and private higher education in the US.

David J. Bier@davidjbier.bsky.social

OMG DHS appears to say that it will apply this rule about changing majors to ADDING a major, telling students who need double majors to "plan ahead and enroll in both at the same time." These people are intent on killing America's university system. They are not this stupid.

My god. The Heritage Foundation, which mercilessly attacked transgender kids in order to protect the "integrity of women's sports," is now attacking the legal basis for women's sports. The transgender student decision is barely 2 weeks old.

This has been extremely clear since we all saw how "essential workers" got treated in 2020 and 2021 while everyone else got to stay home.

jon ben-menachem@jbenmenachem.com

Americans fundamentally do not respect the vast majority of low paid occupations (aka the jobs most people in society work). Instead there’s a weird mythology around nearly nonexistent forms of work in contemporary US, like industrial manufacturing

I just saw "I'm staying skeptical because I remember what happened to Emmet Till" over on reddit. And there you have it! The worst possible faux-woke misogynistic (not to mention racist) response to this whole mess. We can pack it in, discourse over.

Predicting it now: McConnell is alive but never going to wake up and they’re hiding it because “see, you can’t replace him, he’s alive” is deeply fucking embarrassing in light of that. Honestly that sort of “akshually we technically can do this” BS is perfectly fitting with his rotten legacy.

That’s a sincere hope, by the way. Platner is obviously a dog shit liar with no real moral compass, but there’s a chance a good team will keep him in line. For the sake of American Democracy and the end of the violent imperialism he cheered for, I hope that happens.

On my fucking knees begging “leftists” to not talk about the US left being “stabbed in the back” by international Jewish money. It will surprise no one that this was a discussion about how people need to support a certain senatorial candidate in Maine.

This headline seems hyperbolic but my personal experience both bike commuting and riding recreationally is that a lot of drivers definitely do, even in a deep blue city in a blue state.

Conspiracy theory: there isn’t going to be the jet fuel to run these flights into the US soon anyway, and this saves face for it.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

This plan is actively *insane.* Airlines cannot divert large numbers of international flights from one city to another; they'd just have to cancel flights en masse, causing enormous economic damage that splashed waaaaay beyond a few big cities that were the target.

Unfortunately this story has spread to more mainstream outlets and comments are full of “I’m a liberal but people should stop moving here/this is a waste of tax dollars/why do they want special treatment.” As long as liberal cis society maintains this degree of apathy, the crisis will continue.

In Seattle, organizers are warning of a growing crisis as more and more trans refugees seek to escape red states. Mutual aid networks of "broke trans people helping broke trans people" are being overwhelmed, and one organizer @evanurquhart.bsky.social spoke with is facing eviction herself.

Mass Effect isn’t really an endorsement of the existence of extra-judicial super-cops because while playing as one you spend probably half your time cleaning up huge messes created by other extra-judicial super-cops.

A strap on one of my bras broke, which would be only mildly annoying if not for the fact that the dryer tore another one of my bras by twisting it into a super tight knot just a few days ago. Seriously what the heck?

This is the stuff of electoral suicide. You can kill half a million brown people abroad but that won't piss off voters nearly as much as turning up the How Much Stuff Costs dial.

I did a stint of political phone polling during Trump’s first term and unfortunately heard stuff like this on the regular. One guy once told me he opposed solar power decisions because he was worried about depleting the sun’s energy.

Starting Chapter 18 of The Persephone Effect and I’m reminded that anything I can imagine for Demeter is too good for her. That’s a fun character to hate, in the tradition of Joffrey Baratheon or Immortan Joe.
