🌊 Stand up for our lifesavers & put Reform on the spot. 🛟 Following Portsmouth Lib Dems' lead, our new template council motion backs the RNLI, condemns abuse of volunteer crews, and forces Reform councillors to show where they truly stand. Get the motion 🔗 www.aldc.org/2026/10/counci...

So angry about this i might go there tomorrow and hold a protest. Possibly one in Waterstones. Where i talk about my new book. YEAH

There was a long discussion of pedestrianisation on Radio 4 earlier with not a single mention of Norwich. Outrageous oversight by the national broadcaster once again.

Such good advice

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I avoid Oxford St not due to traffic but due to pedestrian behaviour and crowded tube. I can find those big name stores elsewhere. I doubt Oxford St is where teenagers go for 1st shopping trip. More likely the Westfields & Brent Cross or Portobello market. Puma isn’t going to bring in tourists 🤷🏽‍♀️

Oxford Street. Reimagined.

If hosts can’t make money from STRs they may sell-up adding more housing stock in tourist areas but the biggest bounce will be for traditional hotels. Airbnb won’t go out of business because it’s already shifting its business from individual hosts to hotels.

MingTheMerciless@mingthemercyless.bsky.social

If #airbnb went out of business it would probably double the amount of properties available for long-term rentals. How can that be a bad thing? www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

I find the new adverts for Remote dot com in every tube train, quite disconcerting. Should a company in employment and payroll use the phrasing, “sold in London”? I suppose they mean the goods not the employee but it’s really not clear.

Freedom of movement could work better because post-Brexit migration let all those non-white people in. Innit?

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Prime Minister Andy Burnham says he wants a more 'honest conversation' about freedom of movement, suggesting it could work better than post-Brexit immigration has. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Britons should use money we haven't got to buy food the country doesn't grow, store it in homes that don't exist, in spare rooms that got taxed away, so we can survive when reservoirs nobody built run dry because of a climate the govt won't protect. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I’m watching the final 2 episodes in the final season of the Chelsea Detective. Went to Cine Lumiere yesterday, where, in a previous episode, a suspect was arrested too enthusiastically & fell down the stairs. I held on tightly to the handrail in case someone was inspired to recreate the scene. 😂

We the Liberal Democrat’s have outlined our plans on how to tackle the threats from Russia. We need to expand UK shipbuilding, with six new Royal Navy frigates and four new British shipyards to face down these threats. @jamesmaccleary.bsky.social

This is the point. The government is proactively placing the responsibility on the individual citizen to avoid blame later. In London, when Thames water fails, we’ve seen how long it takes to get bottled water deliveries. Clearly the gov also doesn’t have a storage or distribution network.

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

Sure, we should, if we can (many cannot). But as I keep pointing out, the government itself is making no provision at all. No stockpiles, no back-up, no alternative sources. It's individuating the response to a collective problem, and that never ends well. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Ed Davey perfectly demonstrating the problem here - by posting content on X he and our other leaders are simply shoring up Trump proxy Musk.

Barry Howard 🔶h@barryhow2c.bsky.social

Ed Davey pointing out that we cannot rely on Donald Trump and the need to work closely on a more reliable ally, being our close neighbours in Europe. 🇪🇺🇬🇧🇪🇺🇬🇧

Hi Bonnie, I was threatened and then got cut off by my parents. I wasn’t there as I had run away from home at age 17, but a brother told me the family was assembled in the library and like a scene from a gothic movie the family solicitor removed my name from the will. I never looked back.

The real mystery is why steps haven’t been taken to ban tall people from sitting in the front at cinemas. I don’t have a car, use public transport, so parking OK, but it’s a mystery why the 218 is allowed to hide behind the 306 and then pull out and drive off without stopping. Also child poverty.

Duncan Weldon@duncanweldon.bsky.social

Things like that cracking down on aggressive parking charges or people playing loud music on a train are just… good steps. The real mystery is why no government has taken these steps before.

The neglect of care homes during Covid was devastating. Warnings about testing and PPE were ignored, putting vulnerable residents and staff at risk. At the very least, an apology is owed to those impacted.

Reminds me of Bloomberg against Singapore. In that case Bloomberg didn’t back down but lost. Still, it’s important to stand up to dictators. Don’t let them own the narrative.

Jail for people on large shared tables taking up all the chairs with their bags and coats - who give you the evil eye and mutter rudely when you politely ask if “those chairs” are taken.

Katie Martin@katie0martin.ft.com

Jail time for people who stand on the left on tube escalators. Public stoning for people who walk at you looking at their phone. Stay tuned for more mad, unenforceable policy ideas aimed at minor daily irritations.

And he could do just the same here in the UK - unless the Representation of the People Bill is both strengthened and passed.

One widely loathed, ketamine-addicted, white-supremacist billionaire can single-handedly keep a failing political party afloat, through the brute force of money. Excellent system we've set up here.

The Dept for Health and Social Care told us to take down our spoof video criticising Palantir’s NHS contract. We checked with our lawyers, and we’ve not done anything wrong. So we’re reposting it, in case you missed it 👀

Sundays have been tough for me since my husband passed away. Having lunch with a friend today but also I’m glad in a way to be coming back to an empty home. I’m going to watch the Reform Documentary and it would have been too much for Ken- an exile here- in ironically still a hostile environment.

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

I’ve been telling you who John Cleese is for years. 9 years in fact. He voted Leave, then before GE 2017 he announced he wouldn’t be going to the polls as his vote was “worthless” in Kensington, a *Tory stronghold. *After 3 recounts Labour overturned the Tory incumbent by 20 votes.

.@eddavey.libdems.org.uk and I have written today to the Prime Minister. We're deeply concerned at the postponement of Palestinian elections. Britain needs to work with both Palestinian and Israeli authorities to ensure these elections take place on 28 November 2026, as originally planned.
