Have you picked up your copy of THE DEVIL'S BANQUET by Phil Lecomber? This dark historical thriller sees Cockney private eye George Harley return to the streets of London’s Soho, populated by gangsters, wide-boys and lowlifes, to investigate a missing cabaret dancer. https://tinyurl.com/m4d9zeaz

1. This New York Post cover: “Thousands of 9/11 families demand Mamdani be banned from 25th-Anniversary” is a brazen lie. How do I know? I interviewed the organizer of the petition.

Been reading On Courage. It should be required reading for Dems: “This basic arithmetic problem means sometimes living with contradictions, even embracing them.” Politics isn’t about finding people who agree w/you on everything. It’s finding enough people to push the jeep out of the mud together.

The Far Right riot in Belfast last night was nothing less than “a race-based pogrom”, Belfast MP and leader of the SDLP Claire Hanna said. The mob hunted down non-whites and set fire to their homes. Carl Whyte, a local councillor, called it “a hard Far Right element”.

Feeling overwhelmed with all of this. LISTEN. Another Louisiana resident (Marshawn is the only name we have) testifies against the state’s racial gerrymander, speaking truth to power up and down the hearing room and predicts how this story will end. Speak your truth, fight and believe.

So we are now at the: 'throw off all pretence of democracy and do whatever it takes to maintain power'stage of fascism. The people of the USA are going to have to fight like Hungary to overcome this.

THE CHILDREN, Melissa Albert: This is an extraordinary book. It's a page-turner, full of mystery, but that's the least of it. The language is dusted with magic. I haven't read anything like it since Ray Bradbury. Will be published June 2nd. My advice: Be first in line.

Love these beautiful poems by Farzana Marie who spoke 6 languages and was a translator in Afghanistan before a massive stroke that took her language. Foreward by former Congresswoman Gabriellle Giffords. #aphasia

BREAKING: The House passed the so-called SAVE America Act which threatens to upend our freedom to vote. The bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring documents like passports or birth certificates to register to vote and forcing voter roll purges. The Senate must reject it.

When the government doesn't like what you say, surveillance is a tool to silence you. Maine lawmakers are considering traffic surveillance, and towns around the state have already installed Flock systems. This story is a stark reminder that when the state tracks your every move, abuse is inevitable.

One of every thousand American residents has been taken into custody by ICE in the last year.

Jen Bendery@jbendery.bsky.social

A stunning detail the ICE chief shared in this hearing that was supposed to be a brag, except it isn't: ICE has arrested 379,000 people between Jan. 2025-Jan. 2026 -- but only 8,700 were suspected gang members or known suspected terrorists. That's 2%! www.huffpost.com/entry/latest...

Prosecuting lawmakers for their speech is a clear assault on the most basic of American freedoms. Fortunately the grand jury stopped this in its tracks, but it should never have gotten this far.

Breaking news: A federal grand jury refused the Justice Department’s attempts to indict six Democratic lawmakers over their comments to military service members — the latest rebuke of the Trump administration’s push to prosecute the president’s foes.

Sometimes fiction tells truths that facts cannot. It was true of Steinbeck's THE GRAPES OF WRATH, and it's true of Larwence Wright's t heartfelt novel of the days leading up to the Hamas attack on Israel in 2023. THE HUMAN SCALE is suspenseful, hard to put down, even harder to forget.
