Been reading On Courage. It should be required reading for Dems: “This basic arithmetic problem means sometimes living with contradictions, even embracing them.” Politics isn’t about finding people who agree w/you on everything. It’s finding enough people to push the jeep out of the mud together.

The Democratic Party leadership must understand the need to nominate and promote people who can get elected. A Progressive in New York is not the same as a nationwide contest. Be sure you understand the American electorate. Get someone elected. Then you can propose and support your policies.

My goodness. “Basic arithmetic problem” just means this: You need 51 votes, not 100% agreement. That’s coalition politics. If everyone pushing the jeep has to agree on everything, the jeep never leaves the mud.

Except 2 Dems decided to stay seated in the jeep while one is actively dumping more PA mud in front, so now u need more to push, and it’s an election year so one is absentee cause she lives in purple district

It’s like putting a simple protest sign on your front lawn (since 2024) get flipped the finger by the MAGATS daily. Then one day (2026), you get beeps, thumbs up, and everyone wants to talk, vent, provide support, and thank you for your courage. Leaders stand up no matter the odds.

Make sure who you vote for is not funded by AIPAC, those that take and send all your taxes to Israel while you can't get healthcare and they have free healthcare... at your expense

Hey yo, what if the party who said they would help push the jeep fundamentally agree with fascists and do everything they can to continue the social murder of our most vulnerable in society by holding up capitalism? I'd probably stop supporting those people. Good thing we aren't in that pickle!

If you aren't going to run, you vote for whatever is best for the next generation. As with any choice in life, if you REALLY can't decide, play eeny meeny like any other sensible person would do about a tough decision that a lot of people have died for you to have the right to make. Yeah?

What if the person that "makes sense" or is the only "progressive" running but advocates for harming and killing trans people? Should I look at my trans siblings before or after I shove them underneath the bus? What if they love supporting genocide? How exactly is this helping the next gen?

Ask a trans person who they're voting for, and act accordingly. They know they aren't going to be platformed, but they'll know their best option. If a candidate is platforming on loving genocide, you are watching AI, fam. We get it, democrats suck. Until you are running, it is what it is.

Wow, you’re really confusing yourself If wishes were fishes, we would all have humpback whales in our front yards. Politics is about winning, a concept that Democrats seem to have lost somehow It’s a constant fight to do the best you can with what you have in an endless effort to make things better

Those looking to get into office need the backbone to speak what those that cast the votes are saying. End the authoritarian, end ice.The boots on the ground need to do the opposite of his great America fair. Show up in numbers they can’t ignore.

Are you saying that democrats have to sacrifice their values? I think it’s the exact opposite. Democrats have popular policies like voting rights, healthcare, affordability, etc. They need to put these front and center, not run from them by diluting the votes to get them passed.

No. Values aren’t negotiable. But winning requires more people than those who agree with us on everything. Voting rights, healthcare, and affordability only become law when you build coalitions broad enough to pass them.

I'm questioning why the protests about "Free Gaza" and "River to the Sea" ended after election day 2024? I have bottle rockets waiting for those pro-fascist fucks in 2026 and 2028 if they set foot in my neighborhood again. Maybe I need a better reading list.

The primary is where we stand our ground and back our candidate by donating volunteering & voting but after that yes sometimes you vote for who is less awful. I vote for who will cause less harm to marginalized & might actually help people. There’s Never a perfect campaigner/candidate

I just read an article in some psychology journal about conservatives not being able to mentally 'hold' 2 contradictory opinions, whereas the self-described liberals had no problem at all with understanding and agreeing with 2 completely different positions. Two opposing ideas can both be true.

It’s easier to be align in hating others and using Biblical concepts to oppress them, especially when religion becomes politics. It’s harder to have perfect alignment when people have different priorities for the pursuit of justice and freedom.

This bugs me. Everyone wants to tell Dems what they're doing wrong and what they should do. No one wants to correct MAGA, and make THEM act like civilized folks.

The Democratic Party is a mess. I registered as an independent this year. I’ve been a registered Democrat since the Carter administration. The democratic leadership does not support my interests anymore: the far left is no longer tethered to reality.

The problem with Democrats is we are rabble who can’t agree for what’s for lunch let alone how to change the world. Nonetheless we try. And in many cases, the only thing worse than a democrat is a republican. But still, we persevere

Your kid's sick. You have to take the bus to doctor but the bus doesn't go all the way. Do you not go and let your kid suffer or do you take the bus as close as you can get and then walk? That's voting. Vote for the person who gets you closer to progress. Don't make perfect the enemy of good.

I’m currently reading Timothy Snyder’s “The Road to Unfreedom” which gives historical context to autocrats like Putin erasing history and convincing people that their way of governing is inevitable, which it’s not. As always with Prof. Snyder, great book. (He wrote “On Tyranny.”)

We disagree. Politicians weren't Elected because they can agree with each other ... they were Elected to Represent their Constituents & help US Citizens manage OUR Country. We The TaxPayers require OUR Tax$$ to be used to make OUR Lives better ... not to support CEO's, Billionaires & Corporations.

Just put this book on pre order but Ed Spires from NWSOFA gave the best zoom presentation incorporating insights from this book! Wonderful presentation!! Collective courage, resisting fear and defending democracy can be viewed on north west suburb of Chicago Indivisible youtube! (NWSOFA)

I think a misconception is that Dem politicians want progressive programs but lack the ability to deliver them, when in reality, they usually have the ability but not the conviction. Those who rise to the top are filtered from childhood and as representatives to be loyal defenders of the status quo.

The days of civil unrest of the 1780's are at our throats again as populism thinks it knows best. It's always been a compromise in keeping the union lest it all fly off into crumbs of confederacies.

In some cases these people, no matter what political party have vacationed together, drank beer/wine together and forged relationships. True courage isn't standing up to your enemies. It's standing up to your friends.
