It’s just so appalling and enraging how casual and commonplace this has become. I’m out of words.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Trump’s response to the Ramaswamy ad is worth dwelling on to remind us how his administration has actually treated survivors of abuse. Beyond Acton, beyond Epstein's victims, there are thousands of other kids and domestic violence victims whose lives have been made materially worse by Trump policy

The Ramaswamy campaign not only tried to capitalize on a child rape victim, they did it by using an old homeless woman who—while vile—is in no mental shape to adequately understand the stakes. And did they pay her? Either answer is bad.

JD Vance’s not so subtle point is that the United States belongs to white Christian men, and the rest of us who don’t meet all three qualifications only belong here insofar as our betters choose to tolerate us.

It's not "strikingly juvenile" and it's not a "personal broadside." It's hate speech. The Vice President is trying to get people to vote against a Democrat by implying that he's gay and/or a pedophile and/or a fetishist. Take it seriously. It is on a par with every other kind of hate speech.

I’m watching a prestige drama in preview. Can’t say which, but I’m impressed with how the female lead’s hair and makeup get more polished and impeccable as her leadership gets increasingly on edge. Costume, hair and makeup in sync with character and the times. Wish the script was as impressive.

I’m confounded by the level of wtf is he talking about here. He’s replaced the usual ideological extremism attack line with random distortion.

When they get back in power, Democrats need to go all-in on higher education. We need a campaign of reinvestment in public universities across the country that makes the Morrill Land-Grant Act look like nothing by comparison *and* a GI Bill of Rights-style program of tuition grants.

It doesn’t feel like 25 years. I lived in Manhattan near Lincoln Center and I worked at Digitas at 23rd and Park Ave South. I saw the first tower in the distance on my way to work. My mother called to say my stepfather was on a flight from EWR to SFO and they hadn’t heard from him. 1/2

There were so many calls. We knew that a member of our community of Jamaicans in NY, Michael Parkes was one of the missing. He worked in one of the towers. He was later confirmed dead.

A friend from Jamaica called to say that his friend was stranded in New York and she needed a place to stay. We bought an air mattress and I think she stayed for under a week. The airports were closed for a bit. And then flights were hard to get. It’s fuzzy.

The days bleed into each other in memory. I remember gathering for dinner with friends by the 2nd or 3 rd day. And I remember all the posters for the missing. The first center for reporting missing loved ones was around the corner from our offices at Park Ave South so the missing notices were thick.

We were watching the news at work when UA 93 crashed. I left work. Walked home to 68th street amid chaos and stray bomb threats. At some point that afternoon we found out my stepfather was on Continental flight which was safely rerouted to the Midwest and not UA93.
