Recently, there's been a big change... 🧵
SCROOGE (Walton Goggins) (VO): It had been seven years Old Marley had been dead. Unless this is known, nothing fantastic can be understood
MARLEY (Danny McBride) flings open BEDROOM DOOR: Hey Scrooge what's up you sassy son of a bitch. Who decorated this place Jack the Ripper
I caught up on Letterboxd logging for my weekend viewing this afternoon, and one hour later am amused by how much more interested people are in one movie over the other.
I absolutely love this bit of Kristy's conversation with Maria Bamford and think it imparts a really important lesson that it's important for a lot of us to take to heart. Be glad with what you have, the life you've made for yourself. Don't let Capitalism nag you to death and unhappiness
Maria Bamford has been a marvel to me since I was a kid, recording her specials off tv onto VHS so I could play them whenever I wanted.
Here’s my interview with her, which still feels like a dream.

A real 2026 moment: Yesterday, in the middle of the crowded cafeteria at the Lucas Museum, my mom leaned over to me to say, over our two-dollar grilled cheeses, "I don't think his penis was the right color."
Sitting in the Academy Museum theater waiting for a screening of BLADE to start. The pre-show playlist includes Nine Inch Nails’ “The Hand that Feeds.” This rules.
Waiting in line for the AFI special screening of ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD. The movie is scheduled to start at 7:30. Afterwards, Tarantino’s doing a Q&A of some type. Who wants to make a prediction as to what exact time the evening ends?
A somewhat predictable but still fun surprise: Now leaving the theater with the opening sequence of THE FURTHER MISADVENTURES OF CLIFF BOOTH inside me.
LOST DOG! 🐶 Found cute puppy with a cleft lip wandering around NORTH HOLLYWOOD on Oct. 13.
Friendly, well-fed, clean & playful. No microchip, collar or tags. 🐾

I honestly kind of like that Bluesky is under the radar enough that I can be mean about this poster and still get invited to a "tastemaker" screening a month later.
If you're not doing anything in Los Angeles on October 27th, I'm going to be doing some PowerPoint comedy in this show! Come and see! events.thestagecrafts.com/projects/153...
my major takeaway from all the CLAYFACE reviews going up right now (including my own) is that there is exactly one good still from the movie on the WB press site, and it's this one

for comparison's sake, here are three other available options, which do a stunning job of not actually showing the main character's face clearly. that's generally a thing you want for a photo intended to lead a review!
I reviewed Netflix's The New Stanford Prison Experiment, though I gave up after the second episode. That's when producers started meddling, giving the cast members playing guards challenges, like putting on riot gear and handcuffing all the cast members playing inmates.
Just remembered that in THE DROPOUT, Sunny is depicted forcing Elizabeth Holmes to drink green juice.
In THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS, one of the movie's "cute" moments involves Adam trashing a sugary drink of Olive's and replacing it with a green juice.
THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS... has some issues.
For perhaps obvious reasons, I've been looking back over my coverage of THE DROPOUT, and this interview with William H. Macy is a real trip in the context of today. consequence.net/2022/03/will...
By terminating research grants like Kelton's to censor views it doesn’t like, the NIH is blocking scientists from work that would advance public health for all of us. We're pushing back.
Tell Congress to demand the NIH restore the grants and stop its censorship campaign at aclu.org/nih_censorship_
Only in WeHo can voter research include checking the IMDB profiles of city council candidates.
(One person wrote for DIARRA FROM DETROIT, a show I liked, but another one appeared in four episodes of STAR TREK: DS9, so I’m torn.)
for the funniest piece we've run all month, we talked to both the people who came up with “The odds of being swallowed alive by a whale are not zero.” and a whale expert who confirms that yeah, probably not zero www.avclub.com/whalefall-gr...
This excerpt from the new STREET FIGHTER soundtrack isn't *bad* necessarily... but also, The Immortals have nothing to worry about in regards to their "best song featured in a movie based on a fighting game" trophy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT-S...
If you’re a celebrity surprising audiences opening night in a movie theater I bet it would surprise them even more if you pulled up a chair and sat in front of the screen, facing them, for the duration of the movie.
A definite sign of ageing is that you cannot impress me with "over 20 years" anymore.
Am I expected to think this sauce is ancient, because it's as old as Nelly Furtado's Maneater?
