Just heard that the great John Blanche passed on. No illustrator had more of an impact on my childhood. Blanche is probably the single person who most influenced the aesthetic of Warhammer 40,000 and a lot of modern fantasy / sci-fi as a result

Second update: I found another massive performance issue when running concurrent winget commands due to how it's using mutexes inefficiently, resulting in slow runs over a minute for a simple "winget show": github.com/microsoft/wi...

I think I found why many winget commands are atrociously slow: it recursively scans a local cache of the winget-pkgs repository to search manifest files. This is not a cache path easily excluded from Sophos AV scans. A simple winget search takes over a minute, I'm not kidding 😭

I've got a locally patched winget that is magnitudes faster both for single winget commands and concurrent winget commands. Take a look at that - between 30 seconds and several minutes, down to a consistent 1 second with my patches 👇

Played the John Carpenter's toxic commandos demo and I have to say, a very capable Left4Dead horde shooter with some reasonable metagame progression mechanics! Looking forward to the full release.

I love GitHub and I think Microsoft has done a great job after the acquisition. I think however that they desperately need to take a step back, replace the CEO, and make sure that the next one has some kind of media training. What Thomas Dohmke wrote is unacceptable.

I didn't expect this kind of gatekeeping from the CEO of GitHub. What a clown.

Zohran Mamdani’s plan to tax the rich is a 2% tax on income over $1 million. If you make $1.1 million, you’d pay an extra $2,000. Watching working class conservatives and politicians completely meltdown about this is wild.

Plenty of public schools in Canberra have demountables instead of permanent buildings, but Canberra Girls Grammar received nearly $4m in tax-deductible donations in 2023. Why are we subsidising swimming pools for private schools instead of fully funding education for every student?

Other countries tax their oil and gas industries. Australia subsidies ours. Our research found while gas prices boomed in 2022, LNG companies made windfall gains of up to $40 billion. PRRT take increased by less than $1 billion. It's time to fix the tax loopholes that Big Gas exploits. #auspol
