pained me to rate Sudoku Mansion so low because I did actually enjoy the puzzles, but the writing pinged very hard as AI-generated to me (no AI disclosure so I can’t say for certain), which really soured me on the experience

A new month of #BackloggdWeekly has begun! What's been on your recently played?

a list of all the longest words (that I remembered to write down) that my brother and I have used in @petalgrams.bsky.social (also “fiddledeedee” because I thought it was funny) was interesting looking back through these and realizing they literally all use the letter i

She's missed you. Knights of Guinevere returns October 9. The season will feature 8 episodes.

there’s this daily word game Petalgrams that my brother and I complete together every evening, and tonight—with the aid of a 21-letter monster of a word—we got not only a new PB but the highest score I’ve ever seen anyone get in this game: petalgrams.com — Sep. 17 Score: 725 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 💐 PERFECT 💐

petalgrams.comPetalgrams.Petalgrams · A daily word game where you grow your flower and find hidden words. Can you find all 7 pangrams?

shower thought just now: “permanent tournament” is a pretty good tongue-twister phrase, it’s very easy to get tripped up by the shifting “m” and “n” sounds and accidentally say “pernament” or “tourmanent”

Sudokuvania 2 complete! (minus one optional boss that I will tackle tomorrow)

Love that Dropout is picking up more offbeat independent comedy stuff, first Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and now Don Hertzfeldt’s filmography. In particular, It’s Such a Beautiful Day is my favorite movie so I’m ecstatic about more people getting exposed to it.

🥄Out now on @dropout.tv - The Don Hertzfeldt Collection!

Just finished watching Journal with Witch. Terrible title, but an excellent anime, full of well-realized characters and brimming with empathy. Gets the “Made Me Cry” ringing endorsement. I kinda love that I could tell that Kensuke Ushio was responsible for the score basically instantly.

Fun wordplay exercise I’ve been engaged in: coming up with puzzle-themed team names for the puzzle-solving events I attend every summer. So far I’ve got: Sokobanned for Life Noughts and Picrosses Puzzle Me This, Batman! One Prince, Two Prince, Red Prince, Blue Prince Void Stranger Danger

I also came up with “Hot Picross Buns” but scrapped it because I liked “Noughts and Picrosses” much better. In the time since the previous post I’ve also come up “Animal Well, Actually” and “What’s Yours Is Minesweeper”

Not pictured: both Super Sudokoid games (Final Transmission and Dark Inversion), which aren’t on backloggd. Those, 868-BACK, and La-Mulana 2 were/are being played together with my brother, taking turns at the controls.

Let's try something new with #BackloggdWeekly, share your last played games!

My brother and I finally finished our first 868-BACK run after chipping away at it over the past month. 11th on the all-time leaderboard is crazy for a first attempt, very proud of us.

Scissor Seven rocks, can’t wait for this

Catsuka@catsuka.bsky.social

"Scissor Seven: The Movie" is coming in 2028. Directed by Xiaofeng He (Sharefun Studio), based on his Chinese animated series. Full first teaser >> www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_oz...

Read Tatsuki Fujimoto’s “Goodbye, Eri” in one go last night. Fantastic comic, really loved how it plays with artifice—the question of how much we see is genuine or performance, the way the edit transforms even true events into a skewed narrative, the use of film to overwrite or replace memory

Finished Super Sudokoid: Final Transmission and just started the sequel Dark Inversion. Really interesting evolution in design from the first one, which hewed much closer to the template set by Sudokuvania (overlapping grids that you generally fill out to completion or near-completion one at a time)

I think Dark Inversion feels closer to how traditional Metroidvanias are structured: you move from locale to locale but are initially limited in your ability to explore them, and it's only after acquiring more upgrades that you can finally backtrack and more fully master those spaces

To stick with the spirit here of boosting lesser-known games, I made my picks here by reverse-sorting my played games by popularity and then picking the first 9 that jumped out at me (that were actually on Steam). These could all absolutely use some more love.

Absolutely brutal thread. "A.i." in education is a fucking plague and anyone who pushes it on professors and students is betraying education itself. An act of abuse and betrayal to push this fucking cheating, lying, bullshit machine on anyone, ESPECIALLY in an educational environment.

At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/

Been loving all the Telwynium installments over the years, looking forward to the full thing!

been playing lots of EMUUROM lately with my brother, very cool puzzly exploration platformer. am currently secret-hunting in the post-game, and came home from work today to find out that my brother had made a custom font so we can now type out the game’s runes, it’s really sick

OK, this is incredible. Mad genius @samplereality.bsky.social has created a web tool for exploring Subcutanean (my novel where each copy is unique) across every axis you can think of: source code, 25 diffed versions, VR projections(!), bubble viz(!!) & a lot more. (1/2) subcutanean.fugitivetexts.net

if I had a nickel for every TV episode this week with a supernatural emotional corruption zone that made the protagonist call one of his friends a bitch and drove the characters to all try to kill each other, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

In fairness I was still a baby at the time! I do remember playing that CD-ROM version of The Game of Life as a kid though. The excellent Photopia on the other hand I played much more recently (2023), after reading about it in @aaronareed.bsky.social’s 50 Years of Text Games.

it’s gonna be funny when they eventually do one of these for the year 2000 and the exact same dynamic repeats itself again (one game I grew up with on CD-ROM and one featured in 50 Years of Text Games I played as an adult)

First Ascension 10 win in Slay the Spire 2, let's go! Cascade+ with Chemical X is real silly, especially when you've got 2 of them. Final fight got a little dicey because they both decided to hide at the bottom of my deck, but I pulled through even if I got down to single-digit health.
