Correct take.

One of the more interesting things that’s happened this year is the gold to oil ratio signaling that it’s not enough to own generic “real assets” in the face of a negative supply shock but rather that you need to own the thing specifically experiencing the negative supply shock.

Same. Let’s not talk about the fact that much of the tax base in London is from the wretched “foreign born”. Unlike these yahoos in Chichester who assault foreigners and likely are negative contributors to the public purse.

Fwiw this includes me (a British citizen but born abroad), my Norwegian midwife partner, and two of my three children. Nice to know that The Times thinks we are undesirable but has watched “helplessly” as we lived in London.

Index providers are now hugely powerful in markets and economies - do recent actions in Indonesia and Turkey show they are overstepping the mark, doing what local regulators and govts should be doing? strong column here from former S&P Dow Jones Index ceo Alex Matturri. as.ft.com/r/5942b8ef-1...

We can debate to death what the ideology of the Blair/Brown governments actually were. But the actual retail politics offer can be quite fairly summarised as ‘tax credits and ASBOs and public services that work’.

So this is a big deal, and perhaps even *the day Brexit delusions die*. For the EU threatens to restrict automotive sector access unless the UK follows its trade and investment rules. And China threatens to retaliate if the UK does what the EU wants. www.politico.eu/article/chin...

politico.euChina threatens retaliation if UK follows the EU on tariffsChina urged Britain to follow World Trade Organization rules and warned it against copying Brussels’ approach, arguing that tariffs on Chinese EVs would be discriminatory.

Those are called elections.

It’s time to give individual shareholders direct votes on climate change - strong column here from former HSBC CEO John Flint. He says given the retreat from green committments by fund managers and corporates, individual savers and investors must have a direct say as.ft.com/r/ae007121-c...

This is a 40 vol commodity, people. A dollar move is ~.4 sigma. In other words totally confounded by noise. @jc-econ.bsky.social is right here.

The December Brent contract confirms that the Russian sanction decision is about many things, but not oil prices (media *should* be writing it up for what is it and not trumpeting the $1 decline in futures prices after a $48 or 44% run up in prices this year)

Gotta say… I’ve flown a lot, and I’m a princess when it comes to longhaul. But the current prices are impacting my consumption.

The US has stepped back from taking out IRGC gunboats in the SoH. That's created a vacuum that the IRGC is only too happy to fill. The result is shipping costs for crude that are way above anything we saw in 2022. Time to shut down IRGC and its gunboats... robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/how-much-f...

It is long surge compute pricing with a mix of counterparties for credit risk. Great when things are good. Not so much when bad. But they are also a large customer…

From pigeons carrying stock quotes to Bloomberg’s Market Master terminals, the history of #finance is really a story about how fast you can move information and who controls that transfer. buff.ly/A2ohMwc

This is bad analysis and assumes no selling to meet the tax bill. The impact would be material. That may be worth the decision but it is important to appropriately price trade offs. This “no impact-ism” is bullshit and the flip side of the Brexit coin.

California’s billionaires have a combined net worth of $2.4 trillion. Under Prop 40, their net worth would fall to…just under $2.3 trillion. What amounts to a rounding error for them would allow millions of their fellow Californians to afford healthcare. Vote yes on Prop 40.

This is the right take. Saylor is not the CB of bitcoin. He can’t make it. The analogy is a poor one.

Karthik Sankaran@rajakorman.bsky.social

I just saw someone there refer to Michael Saylor as the Central Banker of Bitcoin, and I kept trying to think of analogies and how anyone could believe that, and the closest I could come up with was the Argentine Central Bank during the 1995-2001 currency board regime.

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.
