The bottom line though is that we see the impact Magnolia Conf has on our speakers and attendees and the Mississippi tech community and we want to keep that going as long as we feasibly can.

We want to thank each and every speaker, sponsor, and attendee who has ever had a part in making Magnolia Conf what it is. Without y’all it would be easy to step back. But because of the impact we’ve seen, we want to try to keep this thing going. More to come later this year!

But our attendance numbers were down and if we hadn’t had one incredibly supportive partner to kick things off, we would have lost significant money running the event again.

So what does this mean for Magnolia Conf moving forward? We’re certainly not saying never again, and we’re looking at ways to reduce risk and improve the financials moving forward. Some of those are bigger-picture changes that we needed to work through before the next event.

Running events is hard, and given everything it’s going to be doubly so for the foreseeable future, especially for smaller, community-run events like Magnolia Conf. Last year’s event was financially our best year yet (we almost broke even - we’re not making money here 😂).

Not even a full day at @magnolia.boo and this is already one of my favorite conferences. Where else are you going to find @joshuakgoldberg.com dressed as a Tinky-Winky? Seriously though, the speakers, attendees, organizers, MC... they're all wonderful humans. #magnoliaconf
