Caught up with an old friend at Zurich Airport. @acemarke.dev and I go back 7 or 8 years now. He gave a phenomenal talk at @zurichjs.com on performance debugging. As always he was answering questions with the community and sharing stories with anyone lucky enough to be here.

Erik is phenomenal. He's an extremely knowledgable and respected expert in the space.

📢 I'm officially looking for a new job. You hiring? Full time, remote from Spain, paid via EOR, IC, TypeScript, no crypto, support for 3-4 conference speaking gigs/year. Share plz. 🙏 DMs open.

“Take more ownership” is not a career plan. Neither is “think at a higher level.” Seniority deserves a more useful explanation.

Kevin is one of the speakers who I'm excited to meet at @zurichjs.com. He’s taught me so much about CSS through his videos.

Kevin Powell@kevinpowell.co

Time flies! Less than 2 months now before @zurichjs.com where I'll be trying to convince a bunch of JS devs that CSS is pretty awesome 😅 Lots of other amazing speakers as well, and there are still tickets available and only 3 days left until the price goes up! conf.zurichjs.com#tickets

I just bought my ticket to @zurichjs.com! I've heard so much about the community in Zurich, and a lot of awesome folks are going to be there! FYI, there's 3 more hours on the current price - and they're a steal even at full-price.

ZurichJS@zurichjs.com

We’d love to invite everyone. 💛 But community conferences still have bills to pay, and we’re doing our best to keep tickets as affordable as possible. Standard pricing ends in a few days. Grab your ticket before Late Bird pricing starts: conf.zurichjs.com

Great new way to discover conferences!

These thoughts have been brewing for months and months as we’ve been rebuilding Video.js at @mux.com. Felt so good to get them on paper and present them to CascadiaJS. Hope you can learn from our mistakes!

What happens when your "simple" API grows into an unmaintainable mess? 😅 This talk by @darius.cool explores the tradeoffs between configuration and composition, and why the right abstractions matter more than ever in the age of AI. youtu.be/dExasNlhVKM

This group lab was really good. My takeaways: - they prioritize features based on use cases and the value it provides to users - web performance is an infinite game (never done) - the new <model> element is supported across Apple devices/browsers - spatial CSS is super exciting!

Meanwhile - and this isn't shade but my impression - Chrome updates seem filled with nothing but AI features. That's cool, and I hope it helps our DX (and agent experience), but it's been more fun watching what Safari is cooking.

Plus, the entire team is really passionate - they all lit up talking about so many things along the way. By the way @jensimmons.bsky.social, I've been reading the Safari release notes this past year and it's consistently amazed me how much is being shipped. Bravo to your team!

Friends who know me… What career adventure should I take up next? I’ve learned a lot from asking friends before and hope some of you might help me once again. ✌🏽

the job market recovery is concentrated in startups and mid-market software companies, not big tech which is still trimming and hiring surgically to replace specific exits or plug AI skill gaps if you arent heavily looking at startups in your job search you are missing out

This talk on compostable APIs by @darius.cool absolutely captivated me! Choosing the right abstraction is often challenging, but I agree that composition is a powerful and effective strategy. Darius described this incredibly well across different examples. #cascadiajs

This is going to be awesome!

Safari 26.1 arrives today. What does this bring developers? Many improvements to Anchor Positioning. A refactor of how WebKit handles CSS Units, bringing relative units (rlh, ic, cap, cqw, cqi, cqmin, cqmax) to SVG for the first time. And many other fixes. webkit.org/blog/17541/w...

now more than ever, i believe being part of a community is greatly beneficial for career growth. some steps to do this: - show up to meetups - go to conferences - join a discord server

Behind the scenes of a talk recording: Friday: kids off from school Monday: they're off... again?! The week: (traveling for another conf) Saturday: 🥱 Sunday: I'll do it tonight Sunday night: too dark, need lighting Monday: all I hear is leaf blowers outside... ✌🏽Cheers!

I thought a little more about why I love #magnoliaconf so much in such a short time. Here's two reasons: 1. It's a chill, welcoming place, where I could be myself right away. 2. I go to conferences for inspiration, and the talks selected are filled with opportunities to find this.

Will Klein@willkle.in

Not even a full day at @magnolia.boo and this is already one of my favorite conferences. Where else are you going to find @joshuakgoldberg.com dressed as a Tinky-Winky? Seriously though, the speakers, attendees, organizers, MC... they're all wonderful humans. #magnoliaconf

Netflix is the only subscription our family never takes a break from. I watch everything my kids watch. Their favorite shows are the ones that illustrate our differences with kindness & understanding. This kindness & understanding shows up in how they interact with others.

Dear friends on H1Bs, please be careful about leaving and returning to the USA right now. It could cost you $100k. I know my country is in debt, but this is a ridiculously shortsighted way to raise funds from tech giants, by holding their employees hostage www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

On my way to #CascadiaJS! I now live 3,000 miles from my adopted “home” conference, but that doesn’t change a thing. Who will I see this time? 😊

If this doesn’t hook you, I don’t know what does! Who will I see at @magnolia.boo next month?
