I haven’t slept a full night in three weeks ahead of the polls opening in Brazil today. I might be shouting into a void here, but if you can spare a few seconds to send good energy towards our elections today and for the largest country in South America to beat fascism, please do so. 🇧🇷

There are so many avenues to investigate for the faithfuls to pursue, but they're all utterly failing to do so. Maybe the other side of Miranda was a traitor. Maybe all the people going most under the radar to the extent everyone has declared them trustworthy are traitors. #celebritytraitors

Be under no illusion: this is a significant victory for everyone who stuck their neck out and defended jury trials, day after day, clause by clause. But it is not a comprehensive victory. Magistrates should not be allowed to send people to prison for two years.

Absolutely mindblowing for #celebritytraitors to go from a series with the most obvious traitor to ever traitor to...that

1/19 Eleven years after a church picnic in New York killed a thousand people, a company picnic in Chicago killed 844 more. The ship never left the wharf. She rolled over while the band was playing, in twenty feet of water, six metres from the bank. The SS Eastland. A 🧵. #maritimehistory

Guess what? Turns out it might have been a good idea for both the police and the government to crack down on this lot hard at Dover!

Emma Yeomans@yeomans.bsky.social

Extreme right-wing protesters are in a stand-off with the RNLI in Portsmouth. The group, led by Danny Tommo, are waist-deep in the sea and threatening to go "under the water" if police try to arrest them. Six lifeboats monitoring. Volunteer rescuers giving up their evening for this.

Given that it's clear to everyone and their dog that this wasn't remotely 'spontaneous', why make a statement like this? You could have made a statement about investigating it. hopenothate.org.uk/2026/09/05/p...

What the fuck do they mean 'spontaneous protest'? 1000 people spontaneously taking a walk around Dover with Balaclavas? Look at the social media of every Far-Right organiser in the UK... This was so clearly planned. This tells every Far-Right thug in the country that they have utter impunity.

In June 1934 the British Union of Fascists - the Blackshirts - staged a rally at the Olympia in London. One protestor after another was singled out and beaten up by the crowd. Here's how Ronald Blythe described it.

I don't think people understand the extent to which this has been a decade plus long billionaire funded campaign (obviously Thiel is involved). We've tried to ring the alarm about these eugenicists but it is too easy for them to get parroted by the mainstream media. bylinetimes.com/2026/08/18/t...

A new Peterloo jug is news, because all known examples are printed over a leftover batch commemorating an admiral. This one is part of a new batch on a purpose-made jug, indicating sustained demand. On display soon at the People’s History Museum. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The government's current approach to immigration is both immoral AND economically damaging. Maybe don't double down at an even more structural level?

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

One day, somebody in government will notice what the net migration level is hesding to. The fiscal forecast (£24 billion) was based on average net 235k to 2026-29 but that is at least 100k too high, costing £13 billion, or double that if want to reduce immigration visas further.

The methodology on this seems weird. Dig through, and there's cities missing that are famously full of trees like milton keynes and Sheffield, making that 'only Hastings and Guildford' bit pretty questionable. But if you don't include places with a lot of trees... won't that skew the results?

Gregory Norminton@gregorynorminton.bsky.social

The lack of urban trees across the UK is a public health emergency. We need vastly more green shade (and we need to nurture it through ever more brutal summers).

Sheffield, apparently.

kylie4Bob@kayfourbee.bsky.social

This is quite a good one for people to think about - what's the biggest UK city you haven't been to? Mine is Liverpool, but daughter likely going to University there so that will change.
