I've seen a lot of misinformation and confusion about Canada's migrant labour policies since Monday's vote in Alberta. At the risk of seeming opportunistic, I encourage anyone wanting to understand more about these policies, past and present, to read Precarious: The Lives of Migrant Workers.

Maybe stop bitching about your own little problems for a second and help me find out where my wife hid the goddamn Halloween candy.

In her interview on West of Centre, Premier Smith said that her supporters are “concerned about young children being transgendered behind their parents’ backs.” What the fuck does “being transgendered” mean? How can she lie with such smooth ease? And how is this hateful person our Premier?

Gather ‘round, kids, let me tell you a story. There was a time when there would be a saxophone solo before the guitar solo, and it made everybody very, very happy. People are gonna tell you not to do drugs but I don’t know, man. I don’t know

Rowling *never* writes about women’s rights, workplace discrimination or the threats to women from predatory men. I tracked her posts for five months: Well over 200 hateful transphobic smears. Not a single post about women’s actual concerns or needs None

And Albertans also give skinny Thanos permission to leave Canada if he’s so aggrieved and disappointed.

Mitch Sylvestre on losing the referendum: "We really believe that Ottawa's been abusing Alberta for the last 10 or 11 years. And it seems to me that Albertans have given them permission to continue to do that."

Interesting comment by Janet Brown (pollster goddess) on CBC this morning: Only 40% voted for 1-9. Her initial analysis is that people took the “No to the nine” as “say no to voting for the nine” 😮

Not surprised on the immigration questions, sadly. Nobody other than Carter really campaigned aggressively there. Imagine if the Alberta NDP had?

The separatists are going to lose today’s vote. But if Alberta’s political class doesn’t stop feeding and inflaming their bottomless sense of grievance and victimhood, we’ll all end up losing in the end. #abpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2026/10/19/o...

NEW: Danielle Smith banked on her 9 referendum questions being a guaranteed win. She even dumped $4M of taxpayer money into a desperate ad campaign to force her desired outcome. We get the same tax revenue from selling other wines, genius.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

Without American wine on Canadian shelves, Canadians are also missing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue they would obtain from selling our wine.

Danielle Smith crafted her nine questions as easy winners on her referendum ballot. She surely expected the wall of opposition, esp. on cutting services for some immigrants — but what about the pushback and indifference on her own side? By me: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I saw NAZA today at the Calgary International Film Festival. Nobody who’s paid any attention to Israel’s wars on Gaza will be surprised by the revelations in the film. But to hear 24 IDF soldiers coldly describe the systematic and intentional massacre of Palestinian civilians hits differently.

It takes a special kind of bigotry... To read the definition of hate speech and follow it up by saying "I'm going to take it to another level"... Before launching into an appalling attack on an entire religion. But Alberta Separatists are apparently up to that task. #abpoli

And the media should treat as such. The separatist leaders are loons and grifters. Giving a platform to folks who think the King of England is scheming to assassinate them and people who have "allegedly" stolen millions of dollars from First Nations is dangerous.

Emmett Macfarlane 🇨🇦@emmettmacfarlane.com

What's happening in Alberta is even more batshit than I ever thought. Danielle Smith is a dangerous psychopath, and the AB separatist movement largely exists because COVID broke far-right brains, and is led by Christo-fascist religious white nationalists, relying on dark money. 2/n

“Sylvestre also says he’s on the record a hundred times saying he does not want to start an Alberta separatist party and wants nothing to do with a new party.” Separatists are inherently lazy. Going the Quebec route by starting a party and winning an election is too much work for these grifters.
