Our Special Issue on „(Re-)Establishing Quality Criteria in Content Analysis“ is out in SCM. Guest Editors: @marhai.bsky.social, Johanna Schindler, @bachl.bsky.social, @emesedomahidi.bsky.social & me. 👉 More info & papers: doi.org/10.5771/2192...

Fake news and the hybrid media system as well as malicious language online -- interesting phenomena we package under the umbrella term of (in quotation marks) "'contemporary' news". @jolukito.bsky.social guides us through these phenomena in our recent podcast episode! 📻🎧

CCS Pod@ccspod.bsky.social

How to study "contemporary" news? Join our discussion with the wonderful @jolukito.bsky.social on hybrid media systems, different forms of political language and their impact, and the role of CCS. Listen in here: t1p.de/getq0

And what a great contribution this is -- thanks Annemarie!

Our podcast @ccspod.bsky.social is also here, now. And we have a new episode, together with Christian Baden, in which we discuss how nasty some places of online debate could become, why this is important for our research, and how we can tackle that, both theoretically and methodologically.

CCS Pod@ccspod.bsky.social

In our latest episode, we engage in an insightful conversation with Christian Baden, delving into the nature and prevalence of online disputes. We examine their implications for research methods and theories, and place a special focus on CCS. Listen in here: t1p.de/8394j

Jakob-Moritz Eberl@jamoeberl.bsky.social

Do social media algorithms affect segregation in the U.S.? It's complicated: + Yes, partly, said a range of articles in Science and Nature earlier this year. - Not really, says @solmg.bsky.social now in an open letter in Science. ~ Oh, but yes, say some of the original authors in a response.

Sol Messing@solmg.bsky.social

1/ Many said Science went overboard on its cover for those Meta studies. Science published my take yesterday. It shows Meta’s algorithms actually tended NOT to increase ideological segregation in general, at least in 2020

Based on the findings in the project by @marhai.bsky.social and me on replicability in computational communication science, I would very much assume that comm is not faring any better than sociology #commsky #openscience #reproducibility #replicability
