the beauty of nyc is when I'm bored at 10pm I can just leave my apartment and go somewhere. I don't even mean a bar, I just mean like a grocery store.

I love my weekly planner but I wish there was more room! but going daily is a big step and I'm not sure if I'm ready....

My game “one tap games” has hit 1.5 million plays 🫨, so I cut together a tiny trailer to celebrate. It’s my minigame collection where each is played with a single tap, and you’re given a daily random 5 game selection from a larger pool You can play here (mobile & web!) s.castle.xyz/5nEd_NuwDzaa

ahhh we've broken 50 reviews!!! so so so cool!!! thank you to everyone who has played the game... it's wild that people are still finding it organically and checking it out. here's to another 50 <3 (maybe) (one can dream)

virtual book club but for recipes, let's all make the same dinner and then talk about how good it was on a 30 minute call

what an incredible workshop, clocking in at almost 3 hours. if you ever have a chance to listen to n. k. jemisin talk, take it!! in addition to her being an incredible writer and worldbuilder, she is also such a thoughtful and charming lecturer with unique writing processes to share.

secondary worlds (not earth) examples include "the one who walks away" by ursula k leguin, control (2019 videogame), "piranesi" by susanna clarke. help with learning curve: omniscient or "helpful" narrator, "fuck you, keep up", gradual exposition, prologue, and "element x"

now onto "microworldbuilding": jemisin provides a structure and asks volunteers to give culture + social constraints that would inform most important characters

jemisin shows protagonists of video games released in 2007 and they are all grizzly white guys. she asks everyone to find comdr shepherd of mass effect (to laughter). "don't listen to fascists; avoid reproducing bigotry, not just because it's right and it's good writing, but also you'll sell better"

jemisin talks about the importance of "the hook" in your first sentence or page. your world can also be a hook.

jemisin talks about alienation vs immersion - don't veer too far from reader expectation (too quickly), but also don't cater to our bigoted society which rewrites itself to become more bigoted, i.e. the erroneous white supremacist depiction of medieval europe.

writing outside your pov: read "writing the other" by shawl & ward or other resources, read history books, watch lectures, travel and talk to people for research. don't use chatgpt or mainstream media for research - they are rife with bigotry. as writers, we can't afford thoughtless regurgitation.

first up is "macroworldbuilding", starting at a planetary level (for time's sake), and volunteers are being called to draw and talk about different aspects of a new world: the planet, and going down into the continents, climate, ecology and culture

when asked whether she would ever want to be involved in "interactive fiction", she responded with "video games are art" but "video game companies don't respect their writers" and "the industry needs to grow up"

To celebrate the game’s release, Paolo Pedercini, aka Molleindustria, will host a hybrid talk/playthrough, answering all your questions about making games on a low budget and imagining futures that don’t suck.
