we're building experiences that give communities visibility and a toolkit to create and shape their own online space. we see this as a crucial step for making social media (once again) a destination for organizing & connecting with other people, rather than for shopping or mindless scrolling.

we launched Acorn as a hub for community stewards to create/manage these spaces. we're continuing to build and would love more feedback from communities seeking online sovereignty. if this sounds like you, start with our free version, and let us know what you think (drop comments below or DM)!

& most ATProto social apps currently have no dedicated way for communities to engage at all. as of today they can create (only public) profiles to publish posts from, or launch feeds that usually just feel like a random assortment of content rather than a place for actual conversations.

I know it's not a competition between @bsky.app and @blackskyweb.xyz but if it was, I think Blacksky might have a literal head start on this, lol.

Everyone go wish Dr. Kay a very happy birthday! Thank her for her kindness, her brilliance, her care & hard work - and for all of the laughs and thoughts she provokes. Blacksky would not be where it is today without the effort and heart of Dr. Kay. You are deeply loved and appreciated friend 💛✨👯‍♀️

Today I am 36. I have done EVERYTHING plus more in this life and if I never did anything else again it would still be a job well done. This year I want radical peace and my creativity back. I spent too much time in 35 explaining myself and who the fuck I am. Keep up. In the words of Maxwell:

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

re; the discourse around Cornell 7 - it would be nice if instances like this opened space for broader discussions about patriarchy and violation of bodily autonomy at a systemic level. beyond "educate your sons", "believe women" - how patriarchal violence is so nuanced and takes many forms.

we're reproducing mini corporations in every one of us via a culture that does not want us to see each other as full human beings with agency but instead see us as capital sees us - as bodies to be optimized, exploited, conquered.

patriarchal ideology runs so deep in our culture that it'd be a mistake to make this just a conversation about 'bad men'. it's about the domination and denial of bodily autonomy that structure daily life (also via transphobia, genocide, carcerality, labor exploitation, etc) and needs to end.

re; the discourse around Cornell 7 - it would be nice if instances like this opened space for broader discussions about patriarchy and violation of bodily autonomy at a systemic level. beyond "educate your sons", "believe women" - how patriarchal violence is so nuanced and takes many forms.

for example, it’s easy to isolate the issue to fraternities as hubs of entitled, reckless masculinity - but what about tech companies? finance firms? even, leftist organizing spaces? patriarchal logic and power challenge bodily autonomy across all of these spaces - and abuse is prevalent.

at a societal level we have so deeply normalized hegemonic masculinity. the aspirations to be "rational" and unfeeling. to be uncompromising. to give our bodies/ creativity to work above all else. to be 'autonomous', which in practice looks/feels like isolation and individualism.

many so called “leftists” actively detract from base building efforts bc they have not unpacked their carceral tendencies and fight from a made up world of political purity rather than actually extending compassion/support in real-world struggles. this story is ridiculous but sadly so unsurprising.
