The Utah State Board of Education banned seven new books from public schools on Monday, which now brings the total number of prohibited books to 44. Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/4vzf7psj

I am so tired of the dog whistles being dismissed. At what point can we call out these neo not sees for what they are and have actual negative consequences placed on them rather than those of us calling out bad behavior told to “stop overreacting?!” It’s 2026 folks, hail hydra is the zeitgeist!

As a long, long, long, long, long time Converse buyer, I will never buy a Converse product ever again. I am sick of the virtue signalling to racists. I see this and I see a man hanged, a white robe that could be a klansman's robe and light shaped like a KKK hat. What the actual hell!?!

Within Lake Ontario, according to First Nations mythology, a great serpent lives under the waters. Known as Gá:šöje:ta’ (Gaasyendietha), the serpent is said to have arrived on Earth in a meteor. This is the story of the Meteor Dragon. 📸 NASA 🧵 1/6

It's vastly more comforting to believe in an imminent robot apocalypse than the truth: the things that will destroy us are extensions of the unsexy but obvious problems all around us. We are not doomed in one grand way, but a thousand petty small ways.

Dave Willner@dwillner.bsky.social

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

Decisions like the one today from SCOTUS have me wondering if their isnt just a cult of nationalism behind their actions. Perhaps their corruption that has been hinted at could be prosecuted criminally.

Does no one else find this an unforgivably stupid question? Emissions reductions won't make a heat wave NOW survivable. Likewise, more homes can have AC, heat pumps while overall cutting greenhouse emissions. This isn't an "either/or", both are needed. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I’d feel extremely safe on this flight because I already know they had to work twice as hard, be twice as good and make half as many mistakes just to get into those seats. Black women make up less than 1% of professional pilots. Yeah, I’d sleep good on this flight. ✈️

I also want to add that every single time ICE has physically hurt me, they have grabbed me by my chest. Most of my femme friends have said the same. I will not be surprised if / when we find out about twisted sexual assaults conducted by ICE agents with these gloves.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Wow. Proponents of the ICE taser gloves are openly saying that one reason they love the gloves is that they doesn’t leave any marks or proof that they were used, making it harder for people to sue when they’re shocked excessively.

A ban on surveillance pricing—using people's private data to set prices—is already setting off the big retail and grocery companies, which bought Seattle Times banner ads and are sending mass texts to convince consumers it's in our best interest to let companies mine our data to decide what we pay.

Makes one wonder what all that surveillance state is for if not to protect the people? /s

I was assaulted on the street 50 metres away from a police station. When I suggested I could identify the assailants from the CCTV footage from the front, or from the restaurant next door, the constable taking my statement seemed to completely brain freeze and not comprehend at all

That code enforcement is their other job: 1. Protect the interests of the aristocracy 2. Use obfuscation to extract more tax dollars from the working class so that they pay for their own subjugation.

Someone once tagged my alley garage and I called the police to report it. The cop asked what I’d done to offend someone to make them do that. I unsuccessfully tried to wash it off with solvents. A year later, I got a code enforcement ticket for having said graffiti on my garage.
