6th July 1957 .. and a meeting at the village fete of St Peter’s Church, Woolton. We all know the story .. but, in the beautiful words of @marklewisohn.bsky.social, following Ivan Vaughan’s introduction .. “John, the elder, sang Come Go With Me; Paul, the younger, did.” #TheBeatles #OnThisDay

That's impressive research. I'm sorry I've nothing to add to it.

Interesting – I've not noticed this before. You could be right. John was no football fan, and I don't think he ever publicly mentioned England's World Cup victory, but maybe someone gave him the charm and he felt like hanging it there.

@marklewisohn.bsky.social wondering if you had any idea about this little charm John had on his guitar for the '66 U.S. tour? I don't think he had it during the Tokyo and Manilla shows. Looks like a soccer ball so my theory is he hung it up when England won the World Cup right between those shows.

A fantastic first episode! From gag classfied ads to "this then is" in-jokes to Birthday theories, it has the kind of exquisite detail only @marklewisohn.bsky.social & @chrisshaweditor.bsky.social can provide. The accompanying Mersey Beat Popularity Poll playlist is excellent too!

I’m happy and honoured to be the first guest in this new show (welcome back, Chris) and to pay due respect to Bill Harry for creating Mersey Beat, now 65 years ago.

An engrossing journey through The Beatles' break-out year of 1962. I bought the film as a bit of a down payment on the future volumes, and because it's always a joy to hear the incredible story of The Beatles illuminated as no else can @marklewisohn.bsky.social letterboxd.com/nickfield90/...

This, by @marklewisohn.bsky.social, is truly brilliant and totally absorbing - and despite having been a lifelong Beatles fan it's full of colourful detail I hadn't heard before. Thankfully it's also available on Apple: tv.apple.com/us/movie/evo..., so I don't have to tell you to give JB your money.

Today I become a film star. Well, hardly, but the documentary based on my 2022 London theatre presentation Beatles/Evolver:62 is available from Amazon Prime, 108 minutes of surprising and engaging cultural history for the price of a coffee. In the UK the URL is www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/det...

Thanks. But no other show I've presented has been filmed.

Fantastic news Mark! Living in Sweden restricted my possibilities of seeing the show at the time. Will definitely rent this. Any plans of something similar with Hornsey Road or some of your other shows/seminars?

Congrats to Beatles Books Podcast on making 100 – a brilliantly simple idea done simply briliantly. I'm pleased to have been part of it.

New Podcast! 🚨Episode 100!🚨 To celebrate 100 episodes, I’ve collated together excerpts from some of my favourite conversations over the past 5 years. Thank you all so much for listening, and here’s to the next 100!

Sir George Martin was born 100 years ago today. He and the Beatles lucked into their glorious partnership and humankind is the lasting recipient. I was privileged to work with George and hoped to mark the centenary by touring a theatre show about his life & work – but I must stay focused on writing.

The word is that I’ve a 'movie' out shortly. It's true. My 2022 theatre show The Beatles / Evolver:62 was filmed, and selections from that + new material shot in Liverpool and London comprise a feature that'll be streaming from Feb 2026.
