Now that both parts are up, here's a short 🧵on my deep dive into why American roads are a sea of SUVs and trucks – and no, it's not just "consumer demand." 🙄 First: the light truck loophole — which was closed recently! But not in a way people are celebrating ...

usa.streetsblog.orgWhy US Roads Are Full of SUVs and Trucks, Part II — Streetsblog USAYesterday, we looked at how SUVs and pick-ups captured the new car market. Today, let's talk about how they captured the used car market as well.

Getting dangerously passed on EB University by 3 drivers, each quite anxious to race me (on a bike) to the Florida Street red light was not as amusing as seeing car #3 covered in "Be Patient, Student Driver" stickers.

Disappointed to see no questions about mobility, pedestrian safety, or access in today’s Balboa Park survey. These should be central to any conversation about the park. I encourage everyone to share your thoughts in the “Other” fields. survey123.arcgis.com/share/00136b...

the bus is the public forum

Man gets on the bus rambling to no one and it just sounds like he's talking nonsense until he says, "it's 100 degrees and last night the president told Iran they could blow up San Diego!" The bus driver goes "hey now, he didn't say that" until the passenger pulled up the video clip

I support seemingly new "paid parking outside of loading zone hours" in the middle of Little Italy, San Diego.

For decades, one of Budapest’s most spectacular public spaces was reserved exclusively for moving cars. Today, on summer evenings and weekends, the city is testing a different future on the Danube River: one where the din of traffic gives way to conversation, music and the ringing of bicycle bells.🧵

Not something I have seen before. Instead of building the new on top of the old … putting the old on top of the new. Traditional wood frame home that was previously on the site, reconstructed at the top of a new low-rise building (in Riga, Latvia).

Route 2 bus driver honking furiously at a driver pulled over, blocking the Upas at 30th bus stop. Still here for it.

Took a different route home and got some photos. Todd, I don’t think these are the people who write comments on your instagram or take your surveys asking if they want more pavement or more police.

Trying Yolobus to/from Sacramento airport this week. It's convenient for my schedule needs and it literally departs from the Capitol area and hops onto the freeway along with all the other area traffic.

When you have a 27-minute transfer time you put headphones on to mute the audible sighs and start taking transit station cloud photos ⛅

THIS.

We’re:
— Redesigning our most dangerous streets.
— Regulating delivery apps.
— Lowering speed limits where children play.
— Upgrading 1,000 intersections every year.
— Cracking down on dangerous drivers and super speeders.
— Improving our street lights.
— Building safe, beautiful public spaces.

Our driverless car was stopping at every stop sign, waiting for every crossing pedestrian/dog/stroller at unmarked crossings, and not moving until all seatbelts fastened.

Today I saw this blue Ojai come to a stop behind the green bike box. Then we both observed a chaotic driver going full speed to make the yellow left turn arrow while honking the car horn incessantly as if to alert peds/bikes/other drivers that their Labor Day needs come first.
