If the media won’t cover Trump’s rapes, will they at least put out some headlines tomorrow that say: “Trump claims he can end war immediately, but chooses not to”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Somebody asked me, 'When will the war in Iran end?' Whenever I want it to end."

Maybe the people who ranted and raved about “The Constitution” when Obama & Biden were President will finally wake up?

JD - I've got 15 free minutes before my son's hockey practice ends, so let me see how many of Trump's enrichment schemes you didn't see that I can remind you of. 1/ First one is easy: Trump has executed over 30,000 stock trades, many on inside information, netting him millions.

But why would he be “Captain Hook” Of all things to put on the end of your arm. It feels like even a spatula would have more utility.

In a classified briefing, a DoD official revealed to Senators how much Iranian attacks on U.S. bases have cost us. Now, I'm calling for the DoD to make that number public. Americans deserve to know how much of their money is being burned on Trump's war with Iran.

Trump wants to make sure it’s as easy as possible for his friend Putin to bomb apartment buildings and kill children. He’s not just the worst president in history, he’s the most evil person to ever serve at the highest level of government. Vote out his weak Republican enablers.

That Tesla thing looks like a miniature model to me? Like they just tried to do the thing a few times with a hot wheels car/small air compression system and got it to work once? It’s filmed in a way that doesn’t make sense otherwise?

Exactly wrong. Trump has embraced and dialed up all of the worst and most dangerous aspects of the “war on terror”—including the bellicosity, the bigotry, and the theory of executive power. Trump isn’t moving on; he’s doubling down.

It's pretty simple. Your electricity bills will go up as the Trump administration takes away electricity supply in order to give a payday to one of Trump's cronies.   Once again, the American people lose, Trump's buddies win. Sums up this administration's policy.

Get used to hearing about how “we don’t have the money for that” or “we want to do that, but our hands are tied”. It’s maddening. And get ready for the next fascist in 2032, because he’s coming to wreck the country again.

Republicans and the news media will try once again to change the rules on discussing the economy the instant a Democrat becomes president. Democrats don’t have to let it happen. paulwaldman.substack.com/p/the-next-d...

But that fiscal “irresponsibility”, according to economists, caused worldwide inflation (even though the inflation was *actually* transitory and caused by global supply chain issues associated with COVID). The Democrats got spooked & shut down the expanded child tax credits (among other things).

So now, even though the country still has problems that need to be addressed, the next Democrat will have his hands tied by Trump’s spending spree (that included - among other atrocities - concentration camps, dumb wars, & paying wind turbine manufacturers to stop building their wind turbines)

The healthcare plan still did a lot of good. Millions of people gained access to single payer healthcare (Medicaid) But then, he faced an electoral backlash from the Right & he decided to pivot to austerity. That (along with the racist backlash of millions of dickheads) brought us Trump’s 1st term

After Trump’s disastrous 1st term, the next guy I voted for did a great job of righting the ship, and he did it by *actually spending tax $$ on the people*. He passed an infrastructure bill, manufacturing bills, & expanded child tax credits. And he did direct $$ to people (a bigger check than Trump)

Then, I voted for a guy who wanted to end a costly war in the Middle East because it was a wasteful boondoggle and it (along with those tax cuts) was bankrupting the country. He lost.

Then I voted for a guy promising Hope & Change. He campaigned on a really good healthcare plan, changed it in legislation to be more like his Democratic Primary opponent’s healthcare plan, then whittled it down further to get it through the “fiscally conservative” assholes in the Senate.

The first Presidential election I voted in, one guy offered to put the surplus tax money (yes, we had a surplus, not a deficit) into a fund to sure up social security forever. The guy who “won” that election promised to give the money to “the people”, but ended up giving most of it to the rich.

The most convincing theory for Trump’s rise is that there is an enormous part of the population that is scared that society is moving at such a rapid pace. They’re worried they won’t be seen as “normal” so they adopt reactionary positions to try to pull everyone back to a place of personal comfort.

There is some value in committing to an “I’m a normal guy” perspective and channeling your own responses to political activity into analysis. The problem is that it is almost impossible to make punditry and analysis your full time job and remain a normal guy.

Yglesias thinks that you can’t prevent this from happening & when reactionary Republicans attack trans women’s right to use a bathroom, Dem politicians should cater to the most assholish people alive & agree with them for political expedience. Bruenig correctly argues that thinking is garbage.

Also, a lot of these reactionaries that Yglesias is trying to woo aren’t thinking too deeply about this subject. They mostly want to return to a place where they can shout various slurs at people and not have any repercussions. Trump gives them that possibility, Democrats don’t (and shouldn’t).

The news is always "This absolute fool was dismantled in hearings today. He is manifestly unqualified for the position and would be an existential danger if confirmed. Disaster. He is set to be confirmed immediately." When you ask why everyone is furious and exhausted all the time, this is why.

This is why we need primaries. We need to filter these kinds of people out (& defeat them handily) before Republicans get a chance to campaign against them, dominate them, and absolutely annihilate us with “This person represents every Democrat” talking points.
