First Halloween party of the season tonight. Decided I'm gonna workshop a bit of saying "stay ghoul" to everyone I meet

If Zohran Mamdani or Abdul El-Sayed had used the word “Shylock” as an insult, the ADL would be attacking them by name relentlessly. But Donald Trump used it, so we get a generic condemnation of the word without any specific reference to who actually used it, and with no assumption of intent.

Meanwhile, our Washington Wizard’s latest post on this site is from 15 months ago. It is also inexplicably weird and sad. So, I guess we’re ready too.

Ahahahhaha, $250k to get owned on viral video lmao

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

Fuckin A... I know bluesky's got a cesspool of pedants & contrarians & argumentarians, but gd it's as close to the old internet as we've got these days, right? I was just gifted a knowledge bomb about the Beastie Boys & Led Zeppelin from a person in Sakerlina who's fighting for legal weed there!

"Rhymin & Stealin" opens with John Bonham’s iconic drum loop from "When the Levee Breaks". Jimmy Page never sued the Beastie Boys for the unauthorized usage. Page reportedly viewed the sampling as a compliment and considered taking legal action uncool. #LedZeppelin 🎸🎸 #RIPJohnBonham 🥁🐐 🤘🤘🤘

I feel like I saw Coolio as one act at a fest outside beaver stadium one of those summers? eventually homie's words landed: 🎶If you don't work then you don't eat🎶 My younger brother graduated that year, got a job in DC, so I swapped out 717 couches for his, and got this life started. Thx, Coolio!

2026 to 1994: 32years, anything cool happen in there? Got myself two beautiful sons, somehow kept a marriage together, despite a lack of training & terrible role models... fairly decent adulting... 🎶 Life is a bitch and then you die Still trying to get a piece of that apple pie 🎶

Fascinating. I appreciate Fielder's commitment to, and authenticity with, not knowing and generally hoping to avoid his putting thoughts about what to expect from the film into other peoples' heads.

Hahaha exactly. My number one AI software use case is making other software more useful to me. Well, maybe that's #2... #1 is prob making AI software make itself more useful to me.

You're using AI wrong.

Speaking of data centers— Drove from DC to Middleburg, VA this AM. Data center after data center data center. But they’re almost all displaying giant American flags, so they must be ok!

Bonus Dessert: when we exited the theater, across from the hockey arena & its exiting fans, we learned the Caps had defeated the Penguins in our home opener, 5-3! Pretty decent Wednesday night downtown; endorsed, would do again.

The dude who played the King of Prussia was physically hilarious; I couldn't believe how natural he made some of his ridiculous seated positions look, and his sing-songy voice & inflection were compelling counters to Cox's dour facial & vocal deliveries...

I really dug how they both approached the writing's metaphysical questions, as they sought an accounting of the forces at play in both music composition & war. In a totally weird, but also totally reasonable way, their discussions reminded me of Rakim's song Who Is God. genius.com/Rakim-the-my...

genius.comRakim – The Mystery (Who Is God?)One of the illest religious rap songs recorded, this achievement of a track is Rakim poetically describing the origin of the universe (the “mystery”) according to the Five-Percent

Then we saw Brian Cox (yes, that one!) as Johann Sebastian Bach, in The Score, at The Shakespeare Theatre. I remember when it was being built, but I had never seen a show there; not a bad seat in the house, it looked like. Cox was amazing, and the play was interesting & spiritually provocative...

I don't vote in Maine, but if I did, I would find this pretty convincing. Electing criminals has not served us well.

Troy Jackson: "As late as 2024, the FBI was circling around Sen. Collins ... then when President Trump came back, his administration dismantled the investigation. Now she votes with Donald Trump 96% of the time. Look, I don't owe Donald Trump nothing."

Yes. These flawed logic puzzles are not too complex to debunk. Look how easy it is!

Troy Jackson after Collins takes credit for rural healthcare cuts in big beautiful bill not being as bad as they could've been even though she voted to advance the bill: "Sen. Collins is like an arsonist who helped set the fire, and then she wants credit for bringing a cup of water to put it out"

I've grown to really dislike this mostly benign-looking white woman who could be any of 100 women at my mom's church. She holds too much power to be this mid. Sunlight remains the best disinfectant & it's past time for her to abdicate.

David Rothschild@davmicrot.bsky.social

(1) Susan Collins looks ancient in this debate (2) Basically Collins wants a cookie for getting Trump to withhold part of his absurdly unconstitutional tariffs, when senators should be fighting to end them all: congress, not the president, controls taxation.

I adore dunking, as my friends know. One of my favorite categories of dunks is upon smug, self-important assholes who speak and write like they're better than us, yet make continued, repeated mistakes while presenting flawed logic. Dunks on shite judges is as much fun as dunks on Michigan bloggers.

Justice Alito devotes an entire chapter of his new book to the emergency docket—and to responding to people like me (“the most prolific academic critic of the emergency docket”). As I explain over at “One First,” it … didn’t go well: www.stevevladeck.com/p/256-so-une...

Here’s the roster of umpires for the first set of series. I have no idea who 90% of these umps are. 20 years ago i could’ve named 100%. Standardization has sawed off the edges of their talent and personalities. Probably a good thing I shouldn’t really know who these guys are.
