A very intriguing story by Joao F. Botelho et al shows that in bird, the digit formation (their ✋) is not only governed by apoptosis but also due to changes in the rate of growth extension and cell division between the interdigital zone and the digital zone. So cool! #devbio doi.org/10.1016/j.cd...

Excellent news: The latest figure shows that our impact factor has risen to 2.5. This takes an incredible amount of work, from how papers were selected, to how they were perceived by scientists in the field. We covers topics in cells, #devbio, 🌱or animals, biomechanics, and more. @isdb.bsky.social

Being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society is a tremendous honour. My deepest thanks go to the hundreds of students and postdocs who have passed through my lab over the last 30+ years. They have been the soul of the lab, and this recognition belongs as much to them as it does to me.

🚨 How do mechanical forces shape a developing organ? Our new #ScienceAdvances @science.org study, led by the amazing @cvagenapantoula.bsky.social, reveals a Piezo1-driven hydraulic mechanism, where mechanical cues control cell volume to guide cardiac formation ❤️🐟 🔗 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

So proud to share my paper on collective chemotaxis and force coordination in epithelial and mesenchymal cells, developed in the Mayor Lab and now published in JCB. Deeply grateful for everything I learned from Xenopus NC and the amphibian world, where adaptation is everything🐸

A new paper published in @jcb.org by postdoc Jorge Diaz from the Mayor lab at UCL shows that during collective migration, epithelial-like clusters generate traction force mainly through cryptic protrusions at the centre, while mesenchymal clusters do so at their periphery: doi.org/10.1083/jcb....

Collective migration is not just about leaders at the front, but about coordination across the group. Always exciting to see these dynamics visualized. Many thanks to @jcb.org for featuring our work 🐸🔬🌹
