Ah yes, the classic "other things are worse so this isn't an issue actually", plus some "a tech everyone uses, like dryers, actually use way more resources", all layered with a healthy dose of "stop with all this collective effort, do individual actions instead"! www.nytimes.com/2026/07/25/o...

I love when you have clear and obvious proof of companies buying your data. I've never seen a @royalcaribbeanintl.bsky.social ad on my phone, searched them, interacted with any content, & definitely never gave them my email address for any purpose. But I just got a promo email from them! Yay spam!

it's not just that Mamdani is charming af (he is), it's that he is normalizing the idea that children are full members of society that we all share a collective responsibility for
From @acyn.bsky.social (posted on X) "Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal? Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail… Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you. Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."
Aside from all the other reasons I won't be mourning Charlie Kirk (note: this is not the same as taking glee from political violence), it's difficult to feel bad about a situation when the person affected actively advocated for more of that exact situation. Like idk what else you wanted man 🤷♀️

He also comes uncomfortably close to endorsing a genetic explanation for poverty reduction. The simple fact is that America's most effective anti-poverty strategy is Social Security, a program that gives unrestricted lump sum payments to old people. No culture change necessary!

This is a common conservative trope: Giving money to poor people isn't enough, we need to focus on "cultural values" like hard work and marriage. The problem is that red states have been doing that for decades and it doesn't work! Telling people that jobs are good doesn't help if there's no jobs.
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com “I’ve been driven away from the right over the past decade, but I can’t join the left because I just don’t think that tradition of thought grasps reality in all its fullness,” our columnist David Brooks writes.
I like to listen to articles when available. I heard Brooks "cite" three studies that support his claim that "money doesn't actually help". Curious, I scrolled through the article to find links. Surely this article by such a prominent New York Times columnist was well supported!

This first study was merely mentioned as "a study from May" (didn't even name authors). The second (and only linked) study was actually a blog describing the study. The third was from 1997 and just named the author. So the @nytimes.com is leaving me to Google around and hope I find these studies

My unpopular opinion: in emergencies, power should be kept working on a hierarchy with residents at the top, essential agencies/orgs next, and going from there. In any black out warning, data centers should be required to shut the f down to immediately free up grid space for more important users
Has your power bill gone up? ChatGPT might be part of why. apnews.com/article/elec...
The crazy thing is that Trump was instrumental to this happening. He signed Operation Warp Speed in May 2020. The mRNA vaccines had 20-30 years of proof of concept & safety data, they were stuck at the point of needing large # in trials. Covid was the opportunity, OWS streamlined things and gave $$$

I'm with @mollyjongfast.bsky.social on this one: the Dems better get the wake up call and people need to finally retire. The article mentions the many old Dems clinging to office and leadership s, let's not overlook the Rs: McConnell-83 Jim Justice-freshman senator at 73 Chuck Grassley is 91!!!
New books chart Biden’s downfall – and the picture is damning for Democrats
As ample comments have said l, nothing is less funny than blatant desperation. It would be pitiable if he weren't the kid that ruins the game for everyone else if he doesn't win every time. I truly don't understand how this man has fanboys, he's just such an out and out loser
We have reached levels of cringe previously thought unattainable
I want better transit and safer bike/ ped options because I hate driving & think it's a very stupid activity. Me, when driving: why is this my job? Why isn't someone who's much more trained than me doing this so I can just read a book or scroll my phone? Nothing wrong with selfish motivations imo
my sinister agenda was for the kids to be able to walk/roll safely and independently to school so I can have more time with a peaceful cup of coffee.
