When allegations of abuse arise, particularly about a leader, many believe truth will “hurt” the church and so sin is excused, covered up, or given an innocuous name.  Such actions protect the institution, not the name or true body of Christ.

In the future, I hope it will be remembered why Elder Rasband's #ldsconf talk today uses such harsh language. It's not because it's right to use such words But he is speaking to members who really think that way about people who leave. He invites them to replace grief and fear with faith and love.

As such, there are quotes from his talk that could aggravate religious trauma (especially his intro), but his point is very explicitly to *prevent* such trauma, to encourage the Saints *not* to be mean when trying to save others' souls. Love is not sour and judgmental. It is cheerful and welcoming.

If we really want justice and equality in the United States, we'll need to keep fighting long after this election. Human rights abuses against migrants, Native Americans, and queer people did not begin in 2016, and they will not end until we enshrine their rights in the Constitution.

I believe the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th amendments were inspired by a God of liberty, to extend legal protections and basic freedoms to women and ethnic minorities. Today, the fight continues to honor those ideals. So it will be for other groups whose rights are not yet protected by the law.

Deception becomes systemic when we use our collective power to protect what we desire to be true rather than face the destruction and the pain that accompanies the actual truth. Deception functions as a narcotic in protecting us from seeing or feeling that which is painful to us.

Curing sickle cell disease is legitimately one of the absolute top miracles of the entire 21st century

New Orleans man becomes first in Louisiana functionally cured of sickle cell disease: https://www.wafb.com/2026/06/23/new-orleans-man-becomes-first-louisiana-functionally-cured-sickle-cell-disease/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=bluesky_

Sometimes civil rights movements and religions talk past each other, because civil rights movements seek equal power, while religions redefine power. In every era, religious nationalists exploit this by performing spiritual power while treasuring political power. #religion #christionnationalism

In contrast, religious civil rights leaders fluently and authentically code-switch to reveal how true spiritual power leads to liberty, equality, respect, and kindness— A kindness that does not defend nor justify the abuses of the powerful. #mlkjr #emotionallyhealthyspirituality

Imposter syndrome, brought to you from the 13th century. Loose translation: "I embarked [on this work] but what stopped me was what I know of shortcomings in myself. My heart whispered to me: “who are you to undertake to enter these palaces [of former scholars]? ...

If AIs develop sentience, everybody on BlueSky is gonna sound reaaaaally racist in a hundred years or so. Our grandchildren will ask, "Why did they hate AI, instead of the AI's corporate overlords?" I doubt the "We didn't think AIs were people" defense will help our case at all.

A crucial difference between conceptualizing faith as certainty versus sitting with uncertainty is this: Closeness depends on vulnerability, which we can only bear if we are willing to sit with, or endure, uncertainty.

God’s heart is with the little ones, not the proud warmongers. It is with the humble that He builds up His Kingdom of love & peace.

It's actually kinda ableist to invoke the 25th Amendment as a means of removing a war criminal from office. Lack of ability—intellectual or otherwise—does not cause people to threaten war crimes, and Mr. Tr*mp has been expressing a willingness to commit war crimes for over a decade.

Reading a novel where the hero happens to save someone in a snowstorm, because he heard them cursing their god as they thought they were about to die. I'd usually call that a miracle ...and sometimes I think God really does give us miracles precisely when we challenge him, bringing him our anger.

Pres: We want to tell her she's being promoted, and we want to tell Congress that she's fired. Go HR: Reassign her to a new position, with much less responsibility, but a really cool title. Pres: OK, lemme finish rewatching Avengers and I'll come up with something ~White House HR office, probably

This month, Republican leaders have (a) compared black political leaders to gorillas, (b) nullified trans folks' identification in Kansas, and now (c) proposed Darth Vader as a role model for getting rid of troublesome children. How much longer before we accept that the Republicans are now Nazis?

as is always important to remember: the reason you feel so bad is the fascism. everyone has a threshold. some people have very high tolerances for being online and knowing everything all the time but I cannot stress enough that when you reach that threshold, you gotta take time offline.
