1) I fucking hate Turek's bigoted bullshit, and so should you 2) a 51-49 Senate with Turek in it is a way better outcome than a 50-50 Senate where Republicans have committee leaderships and bring their agenda to the floor, not just on trans issues but every single other one. Both things are true.

As the sister of a trans woman and as a person who gravitates toward logic in all situations here’s my thinking: Turek runs ads in Iowa that appeal to Iowans. Turek wins senate. Turek supports tearing down barriers to trans equality. Senate with democratic majority moves toward these goals. Ta-da.

…and while our trans family and friends suffer the consequences of our actions we can sleep well at night thinking we didn’t support this outcome. While they’re kicked out of every org that can be sued into submission, we can think, well at least I didn’t vote for the other guy I disagreed with.

Some of you are so high on your soapbox of principle that you can’t see what’s going on down on the ground. Maybe you’ve never been to Iowa, or you don’t realize how votes/majorities work, or maybe you just want another 2 years of this shit. Imagine growing up trans in western IA. F your privilege.

Or… Turek runs ads that do not appeal to Iowans but do appeal to BlueSky community. Hinson wins senate. Majority remains Republican. Trans americans are ostracized further—gov, military, k-12, unis, nonprofits, media, on and on. Senate blocks every pro-trans bill sent from the democratic house.

Bernie Sanders: "If you believe as I do that Donald Trump is the most dangerous president in the history of the United States, we need to get rid of that rubber stamp Republican leadership in the House and Senate."

Out of state complaints aren’t likely to sway Turek. Y’all don’t vote for or against him. And as someone who grew up in Iowa, bless your little bleeding hearts. You just come from wholesome secular places. Iowa is catholic and Protestant, and hopefully is about to have first dem senator in 10 years.

And thank god it’s a statewide race and bluesky doesn’t have a say like they did the day they helped elect Donald Trump to a second term. Yeah I said it. All this shit is partially on you people. Idealists, I swear.

It’s easy for us to talk about not wanting to settle for the lesser of two evils; we’re not at risk of being disappeared to a prison in Africa. I’m white & blonde and have all the luxury of pontificating from my pulpit about imminent life and death matters in gaza, sudan, USA….or kids’ sports teams?

Fellas is it good when the judge has to reiterate you're under penalty of perjury? Status hearing at 5pm Arizona time. Judge wants someone other than the ICE agent to answer his fucking questions about this plane (my interpretation of his order).

I’m going to run away to ono char burger in anahola. They have the best milkshakes. Milkshakes are the best reason to cross oceans. Oceans are the best thing to put between you and Real Life.

They’re standing in a field because Donald Trump won’t agree to pay to rent J&V Landscaping. The president himself will need to be wheeled to more solid ground to support his butt brace.

"I just trust President Trump. Everything that he's said, he's always been right about. I believe he'll continue to be right about everything."

I just gotta share this Facebook post from the Sioux City Journal again. The Journal is owned by Republican-supporting Lee Enterprises and is read largely by rural, blue-collar families in the Iowa-Nebraska-South Dakota area. The region is very unhappy. The farmers are straight up pissed.

Two thoughts. 1) this is all really bad, and Lucas certainly looks to be in trouble. Obviously she is presumed innocent but the indictment is troubling. 2) there is no reason this couldn’t wait until after the election. At least now we don’t have to pretend those guidelines apply anymore.

AkivaMCohen@akivamcohen.bsky.social

"In one intercepted phone call ... with an unindicted co-conspirator, Lucas allegedly said that this was their “last chance at generational wealth,” adding “I’ve gotten too old to not be greedy.” Well, that's not great. Worse yet is the presumption that if it's the Trump DOJ, it's political BS

At 10am Judge Ana Reyes will begin an evidentiary hearing in the golf course case at 10am. I'll try to live-blog from the US Courthouse media room for @lawfaremedia.org . This is a case to stop Trump from converting a historic public golf course, open to all, to a Trump style championship course.

WASHINGTON (AP) — FBI employees fired for their roles in the investigation of President Trump’s retention of classified documents at his Florida estate sued on Thursday to get their jobs back, calling their terminations unlawful acts of “political retribution.”

Personally I like Salish and Jordan Matter. She is goofy and empathetic and he is a fun dad. And her mom is sweet. Their shows on Netflix are Very Different from what I watched as a kid, but honestly, Ed Edd & Eddy is the real garbage between the two. It’s just modern art, and we’re just old.

The answer was very muddled so it was hard to tell but I think the Libertarian candidate for Arkansas governor is pro-death penalty, which is the opposite of his party’s platform position. And the democratic candidate said he no longer opposes the death penalty. Wtf?

Ossoff talking directly to @atrupar.com.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ossoff: "I want everybody who is clipping this debate to roll that tape. You stood here right on this stage and you said 'a total ban, no exceptions, even for rape, even for incest, even to save the mother's life.' That was your position and now you are changing it."

Q: "Senator Ossoff, you've repeatedly said you won't run for president in 2028…So will you pledge right now, tonight, to serve your full six-year term if you win?" Ossoff: "Yes, I will. I have zero interest in running for president. I'm running for reelection to the Senate."

Can someone get this awesome human a pro bono?! And I think I count 4...no wait, there’s a 5th?…arms reaching toward her in this pic alone so why not just investigate all of those animals.

Every single person in that arena, just like every single person who still supports him, is morally broken. The people at his rallies, the people who voted for him, the people who are preparing to step into a voting booth in a few weeks and put a legislative hedge of protection around...

I shit you not, you are not imagining it, that man sitting behind her with his hands in his lap is wearing a cap that says ‘JESUS SAVES’.

The sickening violence of Trump’s rally in Youngstown, Ohio isn't an aberration; it’s a microcosm. This is what MAGA is. This is the depravity this movement foments. This is what these people are.... johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/trump-supp...

Here's the thing, counsel. There are American citizens who are deeply concerned with the actions of the government, and I have repeatedly on the record said, "Don't be concerned. I trust the government."

Judge Ana Reyes is going to get to the bottom of this. Can’t stop her. This is a great thread with detailed coverage of the golf course tree hearing.

FL: Unsure what prompted meeting. Just asked to implement report. By Mr. Wischer. JR: All right, we're getting Mr. Wischer on the phone. DOJ now trying to get Mr. Wischer.
