finished the pc version of nightfire, it definitely sure felt like a hl1 mod, complete with a lot of jankiness. had an ally npc at one point that literally just used barney ai unchanged, uttery fascinating game. it did look pretty for goldsrc though

some bits so far that i thought looked particularly cool for goldsrc

Bit of a terminally online thread from me here: lots of games over the years have had punters who had clearly not played them being snarky about them online, but what I found interesting about snarky Death Stranding chatter was that it didn't seem to come from any of the usual sources of snarkiness

Valid if you came away from playing DS with those takes, but it was bluntly obvious many had adopted their takes from the social media engagement cycle of the month. All because DS was weird, well known, had a designer's name on it people wanted to soapbox about, and had certain negative YT coverage

It's already profoundly stupid that people angrily spend time fighting to convince each other that their take on a game is correct and anyone who disagrees is wrong, it's even stupider when a swathe of those people have not even played the game they're fighting about. tldr get offline and play games

With games that caused similar stirs over the years (No Mans Sky, TLOU2, Battlefront, Hogwarts, SaintsRow, etc) I can rationalise reasons like: poor sequel, political/cultural stuff, microtransactions, or being a letdown. Not saying these reasons are valid/invalid, but they're easily identifiable

Death Stranding though, the people who hadn't played it being reductive online seemed to simply consist of people who saw clips/negative coverage of it and decided it looked shit: "the character names are lazy" "its just a walking sim lol" "princess beach scene is shitty writing!"

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

just one of all these Mafia 3 re-releases should try to address the super repetitive mission structure i reckon. do a Mafia 3 remix. it's basically that game's only problem

lotta jokes in galactic racer, but the best one is prob telling the player to fuck off for trying to pet the cat

sure there's games that have been on my steam wishlist since 2014 but i didn't let that stop me from buying Jerry Rice and Nitus' Dog Football

the only other game I tried to get into four (4) times was Bioshock 1 and I didn't end up forcing myself to like it...... unless?

playing Ocarina of Time again and I'm slightly surprised at how quickly I got got used to the gameplay being only 20fps. I genuinely forgot about it within like 30 seconds. Also red hot take coming right up: Ocarina of Time is a great video game

It's especially excellent at riding that line between telling you enough and not telling you too much. It lets you get lost without ever getting too lost, and lets you figure things out without letting you get too confused. Really impressive stuff. Anyway the remake should add Jean's fart gas imho

earnestly talking about why Ocarina is good feels so redundant lol, this is why I prefer to cover weird shit like that Mike Oldfield video game

this is an AFL related post for those playing along. DRIV3R posting will resume shortly as always (the best Driver game)

The way people talk about classic video games makes me really sad sometimes. Makes me think about the guy who said that "everything needs to be remade eventually", because I think this is an unspoken/unexplored thought in the minds of many. It's just kind of tragic to me.

Been playing Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories because I'm a deranged sicko and it's amusing me that this is a "build a deck to completely break the game" game. It's only a handful of tweaks away from being an indie roguelike deckbuilder except instead it's a 2003 GBA game with a weird story and pace

I'm selling old Guitar Hero guitars and while testing them out I can't believe how much muscle memory kicked in. Hitting notes like "how am I doing this??" I felt like Neo watching himself fight. Guitar Hero was pretty cool man

some of these wolverine reviews have the worst case of "this game is crap, 6/10" ive seen in a hot minute. just slap a meaner number on it, you know you want to. free yourself from the shackles

ocarina remake looks good but idk i feel like it could look even better if they halved the framerate and DLSS5'd all the characters to look like the people i see in my nightmares

every time i see someone talk about twitter discourse these days it's like. how can you trust that *anything* happening there is organic? that any given mob isn't substantially made up of bots and alts and bad-faith influencers? it's Astroturf: The Website. nothing real happens on twitter anymore

the most common gaming take that bums me out the most is that timers are basically the most universally depsised mechanic by 95% of the audience. been a true believer since dead rising and the fire has only grown playing shenmue and lightning returns etc

This thing has taken over my evenings and I'm so happy with it. I recomnend becoming a MiSTer sicko. There also needs to be an investigation into why Gun.Smoke on the NES is such a good game I'm loving me some Gun.Smoke

minimme@minimme.bsky.social

I've ordered a MiSTer FPGA setup because I went down that internet rabbithole. I'm descending into full nerddom and I'm very excited about it. Can't wait to tinker for days and play retro nonsense on my CRT

I was generally looking forward to GTA6 but the leaks seemingly revealing it to be a bit more abrasive have me a lot more curious. GTA5 was basically a GTA4 apology party but maybe GTA6 will return to being a game some people hate. Make games people will hate

alas I remember the game will cost me $130 minimum and my copy will be digitally locked into the sony ecosystem so uhh maybe I won't be getting it anyway. I would've bought it physically without a second thought because I can sell it but now it's a tough decision because Things Keep Getting Worse

hard to understand how a fighting game with a weird name that quietly soft-launched exclusively on the riot client with very little advertising didn't work out

I know hindsight is 20/20 and we all become business 101 students when this sort of thing happens but come on now. give yourselves a chance
