Thank you to everyone who took time over the last couple weeks to be part of our municipal election. We are extremely excited to see how much focus there was on key issues such as transit, housing, infrastructure, etc... This gives us a lot of energy for the next 4 years to advocate for better!

Irish gyms, pubs and restaurants are prepared to turn away people wearing so-called 'pervert glasses' as patrons worry about their privacy. I spoke to some of them for today's Irish Times ... www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026...

It is kind of amazing that every four years we have a province-wide spirited conversation about the places in which we live, culminating with fair and peaceful elections. 🗳️ It’s also troubling to me how low the voter turnout-out was yesterday. 39% in Stittsville, 36% across Ottawa.

Ah, yes, a day with another scary email from CRA re COVID repayment. (It has been repaid for some years. It is a boilerplate footnote in a message about something else.)

We keep telling the government - we don't want automated robo-debt, or data centres everywhere, or aged-care assessment by algorithm, or non-professional NDIS decisions. Employ real people. Pay real wages. Fix hospitals & schools. Tax the squillionaires & giant companies. Can't be any clearer.

Penny Allman-Payne@pennyallmanpayne.com

Older people have been saying this for months. Labor's automation of aged care assessments has been a disaster, under-assessing need and priority, denying care and driving up waitlists. It's past time to bin the whole thing and put humans back in charge of decision-making.

With Chelsea Walton, Erin Coffin, and Joanne Chianello elected, I think that council is now made up as majority majority women for the first time. 🙌

Six guys I follow on Instagram voted today for Brad Bradford as mayor. How do I know? Because every single one of them took a photo of their ballot to post it on Instagram. But if you’re going to vote for Bradford why would you care about the legality of taking a photo in a voting booth?

STAY in line! We are hearing reports of long lines at some of the polls in Centretown. If you are in line by 8, you still get to vote. Please spread the word!

I just can't settle on any of the tasks I ought to be doing today. I suppose I should just be glad our vote count will take maybe 2 hours, not days.

Ottawa has a brutal track record of picking mayors that are committed to blocking smart, proven progress. Will the city’s voters finally end that trend today? Locals whose judgment I respect say @jleiper.bsky.social would make an excellent Mayor. Remember, turnout wins elections. #VOTE #Ottawa

Ottawa, today we get to vote for Jeff Leiper. We pay a lot in city taxes. In exchange, we have a right to expect a city that works. Jeff has the experience and vision to fix Ottawa. Transit. Housing. Street safety. Ending corporate welfare to Porsche dealerships and OSEG. Join me to vote for Jeff!
