I am convinced from my day to day experiences in community that a large majority of people from all walks of life hold kind of centre left views certainly about human rights and social supports. Yet we are veering 70 per cent right/far and 30 per cent centre left (at best). We need a new movement.

It's very simple - every single one of them does not believe in the bodily autonomy of others, especially women and children. Martin et al had to be dragged kicking and screaming into repealing the eighth (Chambers is a strong opponent of the right to choose, as is Toibin).

Never forget FF and FG allowed & paid for the abuses which happened in the Mother and Baby homes, magdalene laundries, industrial schools, & the Christian Brothers schools. It was considered 'state' and welfare and education. They let the RCC move abusers. #spéirgorm #FFGFailures

This feels like the only question of any relevance to be posed to politicians this weekend. You either think touching kids without their consent is inappropriate, or you don't - and if you don't, you shouldn't be let anywhere near them. We've been here before, and we're not going back. #speirgorm

Hi @micheal-martin.bsky.social - would you mind explaining why you think it's OK for adults to touch children without their consent? It's pretty urgent, so a prompt reply would be appreciated. Thank you.

Ya know,it was rage at the world the grandparents allowed us grow up in-a world where I knew so many abusers growing up,not because I'm unlucky but BECAUSE WE ALL DID-that brought us in our DROVES to right those wrongs and vote for marref & repeal, they really don't want to mess with this electorate

The Taoiseach told survivors of paedophile Bill Kenneally that he would examine how two Fianna Fáil TDs failed to notify authorities of the risk he posed. 4 months later Fianna Fáil are leading the charge against children learning they can say no to unwanted physical contact from adults #spéirgorm

No TDs should be allowed on the Internet until they can pass basic social media stress tests. I'm being 100% serious. We can't afford ministers making decisions after getting piled on on social media cause theyve rotted their brains and connection with real people by spending too much time on twittr

My mother and sister both have careers I would describe as requiring professional-grade empathy. I consider them both experts at it. Many times, I’ve seen them educate people on the importance of respecting the bodily autonomy of children, most often via the advice: do not force them to hug.

The criticism the DRCC has faced this week is unwarranted and harmful. If you can, consider donating at DRCC.ie. You can also write to your TDs, as I have, expressing your concern that a government would censor a campaign that raises awareness of the bodily autonomy of children. contactyourtd.ie

In fact, Minister Jim O'Callaghan posted his statement criticising the DRCC campaign to X. He has not posted anything there about the sexual abuse imagery scandal that the platform has been embroiled in.

This government, who moved with rapidity to remove this campaign from circulation, targeting a charity with attacks on their credibility, responded earlier this year to the mass production of non-consensual sexual imagery on X with little more than a shrug.

If you're coming up against the evidence-based policy of the DRCC you would want to come to the table with more than the angry opinions of those not interested in doing the work of dismantling a culture of sexual violence.

The DRCC's campaign was informed by consent workshops and designed to reflect the real-life experiences of participants. The government's response was informed by the discomfort of those who took the messaging in bad faith.

If your response is to silence the people who do that work, and have a longstanding reputation of doing it very well, you are part of the problem.

The DRCC's campaign gently pushes us to confront hard truths. If your response to that is retaliation, you are not prepared to do the hard work of facing up to the root causes of widespread sexual violence.

Consent is not about sex. Consent is about your body belonging to you & other people not having a right to touch you when you don't want to be touched. End of story!

Given all of the issues of grave concern in the Justice Department, I find it incredible the pace to which the minister took to his Twitter account this morning, and the speed at which his officials were sent to moderate the content of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.

1. A minister should not be able to censor the work of an NGO or advocacy group. The point of NGOs is to challenge, influence policy or act in the interests of their issue. 2. No one should touch a child without consent. 3. Jim O'Callaghan wants to be in the media every day this is a tactic.

Consent to be touched respects the person who has the right to choose whether they want it. Nobody has a right to physical interactions with children, whether or not the intent of that interaction is physical. The alternative is an unconscionable denial of children's rights to body autonomy.

The position taken by the Minister for Justice and by the Minister for Health expressed to the Dáil and in this statement is that children's bodies are subject to rights of other family members to access to them. If your granddaughter doesn't want a hug, you should not insist on your right to hug.

What kind of statement is it to make that actually the views of the government are that kids CAN be touched without their consent?

In recent months we've seen attacks or denial of rights/recognition to immigrants, women, intersex people, trans people, victims of sexual assault, pregnant people, children, and more. This isn't about party politics, it's a moment for a movement like Repeal that says "No". We're not going backwards
