Trevor Megill getting that last out amidst the smoke of the prematurely launched fireworks. Dream-like. Astonishing. It has been said before and will be said again, but how can you not be romantic about baseball?

The interesting thing about Noah's story isn't "dude chopped down a bunch of trees and built a big boat." It's the decision to undertake a ridiculously ambitious project on faith alone. It's God's wrath and mercy in one story. These crafting mechanics don't engage with any of that stuff.

Defence Minister David McGuinty is giving a press conference in Edmonton following the Wainwright disaster. Hopefully we'll get some clarity on how the military believes the fire started and spread.

In 1887, Van Gogh helped organize an exhibition of Japanese prints at the Café du Tambourin in Paris. Surrounded by ukiyo-e on the café walls, he studied flat color and bold contour—lessons that deeply shaped his technique.

I'll be live-posting through part of today's General Debate at the United Nations General Assembly--at least through the first few speeches (UN Secretary General, Brazil, US, etc)

While looking for something else in the Imperial War Museum's online collections I found this 1943 painting by (Lt-Cdr) James Yunge-Bateman: 'The Outside Viewing-tank : Directorate of Camouflage, Naval Section'. Somewhat off-topic for me, but too appealing not to post. IWM (Art.IWM ART LD 2759).

Was excited to hear my new movie, Bonne Apple Tea, would be day-viewing at a big film festival, but a apparently it was canned?

I think my favourite moment in all Star Wars media is during the battle of Hoth and there's a PA announcement that the first transport got away, followed by an insert shot of random rebels being like 🙋 yay

Posting a meme with this image? Don't forget alt text. In a still from "Widow's Bay," a smiling older woman wears a sweatshirt with flowers on it, and has headphones resting around her neck. She's standing in a living room. The back of a man's head and shoulders appears in the left foreground.

Is this anything? Butterfly effective altruism: basically just living your life being good to people, knowing that will improve the world in unexpected ways.

your apartment, the sport of basketball, and the Republic of Korea are all social constructs. mere recognition of this fact does not actually make the question of whether you are standing in your own apartment, playing basketball, or a Korean national up in the air until settled by op ed editors
