We're only three weeks out from November 11, which means we're only three weeks out from my third annual rewatch of STATION ELEVEN. It's become one of my favorite yearly traditions, and I can't wait to cry and feel joy and cry and feel hope and cry.

Happy pub day to STRANDED ON EARTH: HOW NIGHT SKIES BECAME E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL! My new book is out today (also canonically the day E.T. actually arrived on Earth in the movie), so please pick up a copy if you have not already! Thank you @1984prods.bsky.social for making this happen!!!

Brazilians recommending not to amplify right-wing talking points by dunking and quoting, as a winning strategy Next day, my tl is full of people dunking on rfk jr I literally would not have seen the bigotry if it wasn't for y'all repeating it. That's exactly what the Brazilians were on about!

SOMETHING EVIL (1972): Steven Spielberg's 1972 made-for-TV possession movie might genuinely be one of my favorite films of his? And the fact that he seemingly hates it only makes me like it more. Hope some intrepid archivist liberates the remastered version from whatever vault it's hiding in.

After passively observing the discourse in my feed from the last week or two, I can confidently say I've never been less excited to see a movie than YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING.

I was thrilled to chat with @bjcolangelo.bsky.social for this special @fangoria.bsky.social piece all about how the Chainsaw Awards come together, what it takes to build a show that's a little "weird," and why it ultimately feels like one big horror summer camp. Give it a read!

FANGORIA@fangoria.bsky.social

For the past five years, Michael Varrati has written, directed, and produced the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards. Today, he explains how the hell he makes it happen.

One of the core tenets of the Trump era has been to never apologize and just wait out the backlash, and unfortunately, it's been effective as hell. I'm taking some small comfort in the fact that this approach seems to be nontransferable, especially as we near the end of Trump's reign.

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

The best part of October is all the people in your life who don't typically want anything to do with horror reaching out to ask you for horror book and movie recommendations. It's a small window, but we make the most of it, friends, yes we do.

I got sick of y'all falling for all the propaganda so I made an album called PROPAGANDA that's out today in the music platform of your choice. Songs include fun diss tracks like "Eat The Rich" to a cumbia called "Sueño Americano" 💃🏻 tinyurl.com/Propaganda26

Magic players agreeing that Jadzia Dax and Kira Nerys are the two best commanders from the STAR TREK set (so far) is real validation of DS9 supremacy.

We have a new podcast episode, and we're biting into Jordan Downey's THE CYCLE. Listen in to hear us discuss [redacted], analyze [redacted], and praise how Downey handles [redacted]. Sorry about the vagueness, but we don't want to spoil what surprises await if you haven't seen it yet!

certifiedforgotten.comPodcast: 'The Cycle' Gets UncertifiedThe Matts sit down to discuss Jordan Downey's 'The Cycle,' one of their most-anticipated horror movies of the year.

One of the few lessons I've held onto from my FSR days is to try to have different writers handle reviews and interviews for a film. So when I got the chance to talk to Jordan Downey about THE CYCLE - coming next week! - I knew I needed to get @fakerobhunter.bsky.social to sing its praises.

Certified Forgotten@certifiedforgotten.com

"Come for the moody, atmospheric procedural thriller, stay for the year’s best creature feature." We're big fans of Jordan Downey 'round these parts, so we're happy to report that THE CYCLE is the real deal.

Most of the STAR TREK MTG cards I've seen so far have been pretty disappointing - just glorified headshots of actors. So color me surprised that the Kira Nerys card is actually pretty righteous.

I wrote about the influence credit cards have on the restaurant industry, and how it increasingly feels like if you don't have the right card, you can't get into the cool restaurants (and how swipe fees contribute to the fact that you can't afford it anyway) www.weareravenous.com/restaurant-c...

weareravenous.comCan You Only Dine Out if You Have the Right Credit Card?Almost 80 years after the Diners' Club was founded, eating out is increasingly a matter of having the right card. If you don't, you're probably subsidizing other people's elite reservations.

The US government is now asking Elon Musk to restore the access they say was never removed, Elon says was shut down by the US government, and both briefly tried to pretend was down due to a technical glitch, in between darkly hinting Ukrainians deserve to die for being stubborn or ungrateful.

There is no better way to get on my forever shitlist than emailing me at my Certified Forgotten address to sell me something for Amplify Credit Union. As Andrea always says, I lack a hater's heart, but for those folks, I'll make an exception.

Back in my ScreenCrush days, it felt like every other article I wrote was about Han Solo casting rumors. Then SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY came and went and was promptly mind-holed by popular culture. Obviously, Bond is more resilient than that, but still. Can't believe how long this has dragged on.

it’s been this way since trump made fun of that reporter’s congenital joint condition ten years ago. all that “donald trump will tear this nation’s moral fiber apart” was insufferably cringe pearl clutching and it was also all absolutely correct.

Unearthed footage of Vivek Ramaswamy mocking Amy Acton for being a survivor of childhood abuse: "She has no vision other than to complain about what someone else did to her"

I think I'd be frustrated with this one no matter what, but it's reeeeally compounded by the fact that it's the only thing sitting between me and HELLRAISER: REVIVAL.

Vamps is such an infectiously good time! I've made so many people watch it 😂 I also unironically think that the scene where Justin Kirk's Vadim turns a human into a vampire as a favor to Goody might be... THE best comedic vampire transformation scene? (I love Justin Kirk in this movie)

Certified Forgotten@certifiedforgotten.com

"Heckerling never lets things get too scary or serious, ending the movie on a bittersweet note that centers the power of friendship and the possibility of new life." It may not be your typical vampire movie, but that's exactly what makes VAMPS such a breath of fresh air.

JD Vance is determined to make sure that all undecided voters across the whole country and not just Ohio associate Republicans even more loudly as defenders of pedophiles

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

JD Vance: "Now the media and the Democrats in the state of Ohio are obsessed because Vivek Ramaswamy had the audacity to run a TV commercial which calls it out like it is and call Amy Acton a liar"

There are times where I get tired of running @certifiedforgotten.com - tired of us absorbing the costs of keeping it going, resentful of having to build the audience through social media. But then something like that BioWare news hits my feed, and I'm reminded why I will never give it up.

We cannot let media be dictated by a handful of private equity firms. Certified Forgotten might occupy the smallest possible slice of land in the entertainment landscape, but it's at least one little slice of land that will never belong to assholes.

I just got laid off from my full-time job, which is awful. Don't be shy! Seriously.

Back when WARRIOR was on television, I had the immense pleasure of interviewing Hoon Lee, who is one of our best actors and a joy to speak with. So seeing Lee in conversation with @roxana-hadadi.bsky.social is pretty much the journalism equivalent of appointment television for me.

STRANGE DARLING (2023): Oh shit, EVERYONE liked that one. Another successful movie night for the horror agnostics. It also proves that movies told in chapters are never, ever bad. Take note, screenwriters.
