Running another convention for my board game meet up group in January. I set this group up in 2013 as collecting boardgames and playing boardgames are two different hobbies and the ‘playing them’ hobby is the challenging one as finding players is tough but that’s where the meetup group comes in.

Pleased to announce that we are running our 5th Board Games Ireland Convention on January 9th at the Dublin Airport Hilton. Early bird tickets currently available! bgicon.ie #boardgames #ireland #dublin #tabletop

Have had a bad cold for 2 months now and it just keeps getting worse and worse to the point where I can’t sleep anymore. Have so many drugs now! Hoping to nuke it once and for all.

Far right protesters can walk into libraries to threaten people with a police escort and block roads asking brown skinned people for ID while the Gardai look on. The same Gardai will happily put a dozen leftie students in A+E for a week during an eviction protest. I hope this helps your analysis

Made my way through the whole Childsplay/Chucky series over the past week or so. With the exception of the 3rd one they’re all great little movies. Have also just started on the TV series today. (Also thinking of dressing my 1.5 year old up as him for Halloween) #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Time to post your #LastFourWatched 👀🩸

We’re nominated for an ‘All Ireland Podcast Award’ for the Drama on Near podcast. The play I submitted was David Donovan’s “To The Bone” a rural drama exploring the relationship between generations and changing attitudes. You can find it here: drama.nearfm.ie/to-the-bone/ #AudioDrama

RIP Tom Skerritt. Oddly, that’s 3 cast members from the movie ‘Big Man on Campus’ that have passed this year.

Spotted that they were painting over the big mural on Fleet Street earlier. Heaven forbid the city has a bit of colour in it.

The boat I captained up and down the Shannon some years back. That might be a blurry @devore.bsky.social on the left there. Go to your camera roll and search “boat” and then post a picture of a boat you like.

We’ve got about 10,000 members on meetup.com now and we’ve been featured on TV3, RTE Radio 1 and in the Sunday Business Post. Modern boardgames are a lot of fun and they’re good for your brain and it’s a great way to meet new people.

While writing up an analysis of environment implications of the budget I went back to what I had done for Budget 2025 for comparison. What people are missing is that the concern its just that the gov has paused the carbon tax, its that the carbon tax was never being allocated correctly to begin with

First time play of Tortuga 1667 today. Have all the Dark Cities games, which all have cute boxes that make them look like books, but until today I’ve only played Salem 1692 and Hollywood 1947. The new one, Roma XLI, should be shipping soon. #boardgames

Currently working on a poster design for the next @boardgamesireland.com convention and all the terrible generative AI posters out there these days has really pushed me to go high effort. This was my kitchen table last night. That’s components from 59 boardgames I’ve assembled into a collage there.

I like the idea that the poster itself will be a sort of game where people can try and work out what game each component belongs too (I really hope they can, as I’m having trouble remembering what boxes everything has to go back into now)

It’s a real bummer that the new Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure series has an outro tune produced by an alleged abuser. Traditionally the outro has a classic pop music track playing over it. So I did my own version with an appropriate 80s track instead.

Oh no. Not happy to have to add to the list so so soon. RIP Richard Harrison.

Been teaching my self Python and as a little project I wanted a program that would take the list of movies I’ve watched as part of my movie club and cross reference it the list of actor deaths this year so it outputs a list of the movies we’ve watched that featured those actors.

Cool. Already got a response from Fingal CC. Like the sign while ugly is also on a traffic light poll at head height so it’s also a dangerous obstacle. I’d have yanked it down myself but I want to make sure they get fined.

Normally wouldn’t be bothered reporting illegal advertising signs put up on the street to the council. But when they use AI for the poster design you better believe I’ll make the time to report it.

All these posters look identical as well. Don’t know how it doesn’t make people realise what a creative dead-end AI ‘art’ is. It can’t exist without stealing but also seeks to destroy what it steals from.

Works pretty well. The idea is that I’ll be able to cut clips together from those movies to do a little ‘in memorium’ at the end of the year. The API from TMDb is really good and makes this all possible.

Can’t believe I’m sick on Transformers Day (anniversary of the first broadcast of the cartoon) and can’t go see the movie rerelease at the cinema. Although I’m more of an orthodox Transformers fan and observe that holiday on May 8th (anniversary of the publication of the first comic book)

Not sure how much I’m going to enjoy a JCVD movie where he only plays one version of himself… the title Knock Off really made me feel like there could be two of him again. #BeyondFriday

Comet Pizza didn't actually have trafficked children in the basement but Brian Thompson did make $10M a year innovating ways to deny people medicare coverage. Hope this helps.

Dmitry Grozoubinski@explaintrade.com

The guy who opened fire at Comet Pizza because he'd cooked his brain online and believed they were a child sex trafficking hub was exactly as confident the people he was aiming at deserved it as Luigi Mangione, which is just one reason it's a bad idea to lionise vigilante murder.
