i need all discourses about whether ai is actually useful for certain tasks or if not using it is a privilege (???) to cease immediately until they stop selling compute at a multi-billion dollar loss
Watching the third Now You See Me movie tonight and it's not great, but does have me thinking about possible game design for the first time in ages. World building game for these kinds of gimmick franchises (also Fast and Furious, any given anime where one hobby runs the world) would be fun
I think to actually make the stories work, at least to my satisfaction, you'd have to do something purpose built for most individual gimmicks. I wouldn't want Now You See Me game to run on the same Engine as Fast and Furious or Kaiji
Over time my feelings on the OSR have moved on from a curiosity that burns like a rash (what is it that they're getting out of this that I'm not) to abject disinterest over the years of never really affectively understanding that
further enshittification of the internet, this somehow went into my spam despite the invite only being good for tonight so i almost completely missed it
My first 5 TTRPGs in the order I played them
1. WotC Star Wars (not Saga)
2. Changeling: The Lost
3. Exalted 2nd ed
4. Hunter: The Vigil
5. Anima Beyond Fantasy
It's also funny seeing other people's lists and being like "damn, you're before my time" or "wow, I cant believe people started playing games between 2012 and 2016"
It is, fundamentally, an exercise of choosing the lesser evil, over and over and over again, so that the total amount of evil in the system decreases over time.
And you must keep doing it, because - since evil is easy - good is easily reversed.
When you think about yourself being locked into a life or death struggle or a fight, you can overlook a number of potential alternative perspectives which might not push toward cultural tides of domination and submission or of totalized win/loss states
I'm sure it's good that over the past several days I have seen multiple vibecoding people say their individual versions of "yeah this is like playing a slot machine for me and I find it hard to stop and I love that actually"
Games are made by people and game studios are made of people but game studios are also made of institutional knowledge, continuity, practices, standards, technology, resources, and IP. And those things do mean something, and it is a loss when they're discarded.
Every time I'm in Dagsion in Fortune's Weave, I'm singing along to the city's musical theme:
Suck me off
You sucked me off!
Did you really just suck me?
Suck me off
You sucked me off!
Yes you really just sucked me
I've been seeing people complaining about the changes at EA being "maximizing money for shareholders", and it feels like a nitpick, but literally I don't think post-buyout EA is "about" shareholders. I think literally we're looking at some very complicated financial act most akin to money laundering
One time when my nephew was a toddler, he was playing with toy cars and loudly shouted "that bitch broke my asshole!" And I said "excuse me?" And he said "that BITCH broke my ASSHOLE" and I said "one more time?"
Anyway, that bridge broke his axle
it kinda sucks that bioware's situation is so dire that people are just talking about the studio and the games and not yet another massive swathe of people being fired
I feel like knowing the actual number of fired devs at this point would be really scary to even try to imagine
BioWare was not closed because their games were queer, or bad, or rushed, or too ambitious or anything else. They were closed because EA is trying to raise their bottom line by a couple percentage points and that always comes at the expense of the people who's labour is already being exploited.
you can't judge when bioware was really killed because the mismanagement at the higher level under EA has been so constant and pervasive since the acquisition at every stage that every game shipped at all was a herculean miracle
Considering if I should try to change my ADHD meds because I am experiencing some stress and weird attention while on them, but there's also a million other fucked things in my life that might account for that
I do know I sometimes get that hard pull into focus on shit I maybe don't want to (video games, whatever), but that's also a question of what I'm doing while medicated more than the meds themselves I think
But it's the occasional emotional flatness and sometimes lack of super clear or specific recall that stand out to me most. But like I said, hard to parse out from other huge shit going on in my life

After an intensely stressful week, fasting plus endoscopy, and getting back to running this morning I feel like I need a ton of protein or something. Somebody should buy me chicken fried steak lmao
