Who said Elon Musk 😭😭😭

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

Every year, Research!America does a poll that asks, "Can you name a living scientist?" In January 2026, 76% of respondents said "no." Of those who said "yes," 5% named a scientist who was, in fact, dead. www.researchamerica.org/blog/can-you...

Have to agree with Derek here. SLS took Artemis I around Earth and to the Moon on its first try; New Glenn reached orbit on its first attempt. This is Starship's 14th flight. It's a milestone for the company, yes.

Derek Newsome@derek.space

It’s honestly not even that amazing of an achievement. It took Starship 14 flights to accomplish the bare minimum expected of a launch vehicle, and even then it’s not exactly been a smooth flight.

SpaceX just launched the 14th Starship test flight, and it's now successfully in orbit for the first time. This is an amazing achievement, and I absolutely detest how Musk has ruined this sort of thing both for me and for humanity.

I really wonder when the first starship will be stranded in orbit, becoming a ticking time bomb for everything down on earth. This rocket is gigantic and neither safe nor reliable.

Gene J. Mikulka@genejm1017.bsky.social

So a sort of successful mission for Starship Mission 14. They didn't check all the boxes because of Raptor engine failures, but they deployed the 26 Starlink Satellites and achieved orbit, though not for as long as planned. It's clear that the Raptor engine is still a thorn in the company's side.

It's very impressive what they are doing, but shall we keep in mind that this is being "sold" as a human rated fully and rapidly re-usable system ? Ie. few booster engines still didnt start during landing burn, smashing the booster into the ocean and Starship still has damaged TPS after landing.

NASA has awarded more lunar lander contracts for its moon base plan, while announcing new capabilities it wants for the moon and an intention to fly a rover based on the Mars Perseverance rover to the moon?? www.nasa.gov/news-release...

With the current application NASA devolved from a leader in science to be a flashy propaganda instrument. All of the new or revised missions, like Artemis, Moonbase, Skyfall, Moonfall, have almost no real scientific value (apart from maybe the engineering aspect) and are only there to be "cool".

Gene J. Mikulka@genejm1017.bsky.social

It's funny, we found 3 helicopters for the Skyfall mission ( something Planetary didn't ask for) BUT we could not find the money for Two helicopters for the Mars Sample Return Mission which IS something they wanted & was a Decadal Survey priority.

The requested >50% reduction of the science budget and the requested cancellation of very important missions that were on budget and on time (like the Nancy Grace Roman telescope), should've been the first sign that the current administration hates science. The brain drain will be astronomical...

I am sure that all the astronauts in the newly announced Artemis crew are eminently qualified and I don't in any way wish to detract from their accomplishments but I think it would have been a nice progression if the crews of each of the five Artemis missions included more women than the one before.

No, no... Let the billionaires fly around mars! According to musk we can fit up to 100 billionaires into one starship. With around 35 starships we can launch every billionaire on earth to mars and beyond! This is a goal I can get behind! ☺️

Derek Newsome@derek.space

I have to be blunt. If this mission happens Chun will die on it. Starship is beyond ill equipped to do something like this, and after some of the decision making in the leadup to his prior SpaceX flight, I doubt he would be prepared in the slightest to handle a spacecraft in an emergency.
