Yesterday I asked new Alpha School employee @karenvaites.bsky.social to respond to my reporting on Alpha School confiscating medical supplies, including epi-pens, from its high school students after sending them into the Texas wilderness. Usually she’s quick to respond on social media. Crickets now!

i really, really want to urge everybody to come with a counteroffer if you want to work with them. unless it's like, 10% of the initial offer (and even then!!) i don't think this is an insult, and even if so... sometimes you take it on the chin because you need money. my 2c as a career freelancer!

I know this is a thing, & when I freelance I negotiate rates all the time but as someone who also hires freelancers, & only approaches freelancers I really respect, I’m averse to negotiating down cuz it feels devaluing I try hard not to ghost, but usually i go “thanks for letting me know” & bounce
