My wife periodically rewatches the whole series of Cheers, so I watched one with her where the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff walks in and says a few lines before walking back out. Would have made more sense if it had been Hegseth.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Rewatched Friday the 13th ahead of the episode of That Aged Well to cover it this week. Forgot how explicit the sex scene is. Also forgot how long the fight at the end is. Brutal.

I think it's sad the way the film became this schlocky franchise, because it's really trying to set up a mystery in addition to showcasing gore. There's nothing that can't be explained by mental illness in this first one.

Trump claims bump after pumping slumping schlump's plum rump

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on Husted: "He went up 14 points or something. That was when I said the A-word. I looked at his body."

Donald Trump goes farther than Michael Keaton's Batman. He's dropping America in a vat of acid.

Patrick Cosmos@veryimportant.lawyer

Donald Trump goes further than the eccentric uncle from ‘Uncle Buck.’ He is doing to America making a big thing of pancakes? Hes a fat guy or whatever. Don’t remember much from that. Anyways both of those movies are 37 years old

We tried "everyone is entitled to an opinion" for three straight decades and all we have to show for it is four thousand cases of measles and a death cult running the government. It's time for people who don't know what they're talking about to shut the fuck up.

Aaron said something really profound on the Trillbilly Workers Party today: Human history has been a trial-and-error process to determine what you should and should not consume. That applies to the Internet, too.

we do not need more fucking data centers. There is a negative need, existing ones need to be shut down

I mean I do also think cheating on your partner is morally wrong, I just really don't get how people have time to do that

LMFAO. They've invested billions of dollars and countless hours of engineering time, and none of them thought to check what happens if you type "PHP bad?"

Jason Koebler@jasonkoebler.bsky.social

wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

'Hegseth breaks Eisenhower's globe' is a little too on-the-nose tbh

It suddenly dawned on me that, since the US is the final boss, its first phase has a relatively pleasant exterior. Then, once its hp is depleted in Afghanistan, it comes back as a skeleton in Iran. The ugliness is foregrounded now.

The true successor of Star Trek for our generation is Owl House. It had 2.5 seasons and a cult following and then got canceled. Its creator is making new stuff now.

My kids are going to be talking about Owl House and the way Disney killed it their whole lives. They love the artists behind it and follow them everywhere. That is the path to our culture's future: let old things be what they are, but make new things. Don't try to make the old thing again.

Jane Austen didn't write any sequels to Pride and Prejudice, and it's public domain now, so people can have fun making their own spinoffs, but the original is still there winning new fans every generation.

That is how media consumption worked before recorded audio-video productions. Someone made something, and it either hit or didn't, and then other people made their own thing.

It's really sad the way Abu Dhabi used Manchester to launder money into global prestige. Anyway, did you know the US military loses over a billion dollars worth of material every year?

What was the first car you ever dreamed of owning, and do you still want one today?

I basically agree with the assessment "society is collapsing because we are tolerating too much and not punishing enough." No one involved with Jan 6 got punished enough, for example.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

This is a major, major talking point on the right. Elon Musk rails against "suicidal empathy" and the term has caught on among millions. They believe that society is collapsing because we are tolerating too much and not punishing enough.
