Suspiria is intense and bloody during the scary scenes - the blood is extremely bright candy apple red, but the scary scenes are still very intense It also famously features the cheapest and least scary giant bat puppet this side of the one that bit Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows

It takes a lot of the ideas of German Expressionism, but applies them in a very hyper saturated art deco pop art nightmare sort of way, like a 4 color comic book in live action This perfectly suits the story of an American ballerina arriving at a mysterious and dangerous ballet academy in Germany

They try for horror/comedy, Adult Angela cracks a bunch of one liners like she’s a low rent Freddy Krueger, and there’s absolutely no mystery or suspense or scares in either movie.

Sleepaway Camp Thoughts: Even outside of the twist, this is a pretty ugly and hard to watch movie at times, with a ton of content warnings. It’s also an extremely Gay Male Gaze movie, I would be shocked if the director wasn’t a cis gay man.

Found Footage #2: I like the intro to this one a lot, where a woman is filming the mysterious spot on the floor of her garage or basement where you can drop things through the floor. The end of 2 is also interesting, where glowing green cracks spread through the walls.

The final short, I Remember, is mostly an ambient piece with a poem that hints to the almost religious mania the Backrooms inspires in some people who explore it, something we see in the movie and some of the earlier shorts. I dig it.

Found Footage #1: this was Kane Parsons’s original Backrooms video, and it’s definitely a bit simpler than the others. I like the stick figure like monster a lot, and it would be cool to see it return in the inevitable movie sequel.

The temperature drop and the heavy winds last night blew open the back door, and Charlie got around 4 or 5 hours ago. He's still out and about. I've got his litter box on the front porch, and his blanket and treats on the front porch chair, and the back door propped open
