Even a paper recently released and touted by the Trump Administration only showed undocumented immigrants contributing about 30% of the overall rise in home prices from 2021-2024. www.realtor.com/news/real-es...

So at least in Charlottesville proper, it sure seems like most if not all of the foreign-born, noncitizen population are legally permitted students or workers at the university. I guess kicking them out could free up some housing, but it might have other, less desirable effects.
2024 Census data shows 46,533 people in Charlottesville. 10.6% were foreign-born. 63.1% of them -- so, 6.68% of the total -- weren't U.S. citizens. 46,553 x 0.0668 = ~3,108 people in Charlottesville who aren't citizens. Those are estimates, give or take a percent or so.
Is it normal when you're an official from the Justice Department interviewing a convicted criminal, and when they start to talk about crimes you say, "no, stop, don't tell me about any crimes"?
This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

Falling down a Michael Giacchino hole this morning. I had forgotten just how much fun his career-making work for ALIAS was. In those first two seasons, that show was just GOING FOR IT in every conceivable way, including musically. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i62Z...
If you want to feel ready to run through a wall on your way toward accomplishing something amazing, you could do a lot worse than Michael Giacchino's FANTASTIC FOUR score. Unfortunately meh movie, but the vibes? Immaculate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2qt...

It's just refreshing to see any public figure talk earnestly about something normal and positive that they really love. (Also, his voice sounds like Lin-Manuel Miranda on the HAMILTON soundtrack; this is a compliment.)
Fall is here. So we can finally talk about this serious topic... Jonagold vs. Honeycrisp apples.
This man regularly says things on Wall Street earnings calls that you would usually hear from someone face down on the hood of a police car as the handcuffs go on.
“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

We are seeing a hunger disaster unrolling before our eyes. Since Republicans passed the Big Beautiful Bill, 2 million kids have lost food assistance. These are by far the deepest SNAP cuts in history, and each month, we find out it’s even worse than we thought. The worst is yet to come.
In the wake of unprecedented cuts in last year's Republican reconciliation law, SNAP participation & spending have been falling — and the decline is much deeper than the Congressional Budget Office initially projected. www.cbpp.org/blog/congres...

Local news reporting to small newspapers is the backbone of communities across the nation. The fact that they are dying and struggling will leave information holes that may never get filled.

Well, this is certainly an interesting follow-up to my article from earlier this year. Although I suspect the Albemarle County School Board has bigger concerns at the moment.

Q: The typical practice is DOJ doesn't usually release charges this close to an election. Even though Ms Lucas isn't on the ballot, her daughter is. Can you speak to the timing? BLANCHE: The 60 day or 90 day practice is not in writing. That's not part of the justice manual. There's nothing improper

Having trouble getting through @karenhao.bsky.social’s EMPIRE OF AI, because while she’s an incredible writer, through no fault of her own the book is just an ocean of waving red flags. The whole thing could be a sentence: “No one should ever have given these people money.”

This is a great article and vote yes on all 4 items! But also 🙌🏻 I really appreciate I’m not the only Sup who swears 😅. Maybe a benefit of getting more millennials into office? c-ville.com/voters-weigh...
