The quote doesn’t even make sense! Trump is in bed with the oil companies! Why isn’t he stopping them from raising the prices if you think he’s so great!?! But also the mechanism by which the prices are going up is incredibly clear! Where they get the fuel from is blocked!

Classic case of “if I’ve never heard of it, it doesn’t exist” but also not looking for it or seeking it out.

I can’t imagine how much consulting work is just going to be this now…

What’s absolutely fascinating—& entirely predictable—is that the MAHA kooks (RFK Jr, Bhattacharya, etc.) used to say that it’s important to do proper RCTs & it’s important to get rid of financial conflicts of interest in medicine, but now that they run the health system they think the opposite 🧐

There’s no better reminder of different people having drastically different lived experiences than me than some adult man in this video I’m watching not knowing what carbonara is.

Republicans pushed the Biden issue relentlessly. Dems have not done the same with Kushner.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

has mmfa or someone like that compiled a comparison of airtime and front page headlines given to hunter biden vs jared kushner, given that kushner's alleged corruption is about 1000x larger, you would expect it to receive more coverage than Hunter's, right?

Boggles the mind how this same country elected Donald Trump (Again!) a mere 2 years ago.

Another one. The premise: Young people are cutting off their parents for minor mistakes and misunderstandings. The lead anecdote: A woman severs ties with her family for refusing to get vaccinated before her wedding — to a man who *lost his mother and brother to COVID*

"Nearly half of people spend a little less than median spending" is an incredibly funny sentence to write.

Alt Boo-reau of Lake-Monster Spook-tistics@domesticshoggoth.bsky.social

yeesh, we talked about this article and it's meaningless. the claim amounts to "nearly half of people spend a little less than median spending". It's true by definition and looking at the historical data shows the figure barely moving. This is not a worsening issue.

I don't think I really mind the prospect of a screen there but saying this screen is crucial to "sustaining the vitality of the Westgate" is hysterical.

Oxford Clarion@oxfordclarion.bsky.social

A 6m x 4m digital screen is proposed for the St Ebbe’s Street side of the Westgate. The centre owners have asked Oxford City Council to “approve it without delay given its importance to sustaining the vitality of the Westgate Centre, [which] is indivisible from that of the city centre as a whole”.

Did they have a follow-up question of: “do you think this is bad or cool?”

Retired guy whose healthcare bill is entirely paid for by working adults talking about how he shouldn’t have to pay for other people’s kids to go to school while standing in front of a mansion he owns is really just an excellent encapsulation of the Republican base.

I hope in the next part of this speech after the video cuts out he then talks about what he would like to be done about all this in real terms.

Ossoff: "It's the most corrupt administration of all time & everybody knows it. While the crook president & his crook family rake in billions from all over the world, you pay more for everything... they lied us into war & spent most of the last year covering up for the world's most famous pedophile"

Get bent you selfish pricks.

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Seems relevant to that flood of journalists who in the last few weeks announced publicly that it was okay to return to X, that the platform had gotten better, and the worst aspects of it had been minimized. This is what you have endorsed.

In the most incredibly nerdy way, I'm kind of pumped about this? There was a class on this I always wanted to take as an undergraduate but never could fit into my schedule (and the one I did manage to take was bad)...now I get to listen to a Richard McElreath course about it!

Probably a bad thing that the right can come up with a totally nonsense conspiracy theory about James Talarico and journalists have to spend valuable time 3 weeks before the election debunking it instead of covering Paxton actually going to Dubai with his mistress on a trip paid for by a criminal

Living in the UK this really drives this home. So much "ancient tradition" is just Victorian cosplay.

Rev. Poppy Haze 𓅋@poppyhaze.bsky.social

every “ancient tradition” was invented between 1848-1870 and every “modern perversion” is so ancient as to predate writing

I think Dems could do well to sound more like humans reacting to these horrors and less like corporate PR.

whenever trump's DOJ has to go in front of a judge to get yelled at, every lawyer on here is like "omg i've NEVER seen a judge this mad, if a judge yelled at me like this i'd immediately commit seppeku," and then at the end of the hearing the judge is like "ok no sanctions just don't do it again"

Yuuuuuppppppppppp

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

You know, the problem with politically weaponizing the DOJ is that it both allows the GOP to go on the offensive with the power of the state like this AND weaponization serves to cast doubt on the motivations of the department in a way that protects the GOP from coming, legitimate investigations

Muslims make up, at most, 2% (rounding up) of the US population and less than 1% of Congress, less than 1% of all state legislature seats (and no governors), and less than 1% of the federal judiciary. Where exactly is this caliphate growing from?

Christopher Mathias@letsgomathias.bsky.social
